Emergency Preparedness
To prepare for emergency situations, St. Teresa of Calcutta (STC) Schools practice safety drills each month. On May 1, we are doing something a little different and are planning a “Reunification Drill” with our 8th graders. The purpose of this drill is to allow some of our staff members to practice the plan we have in place for student reunification in the event of an emergency.
Reunification is the process by which a school would evacuate all individuals from the school campus, and transport them by bus to another location for organized release to their parents/guardians OR, it could be the process of releasing students to parents/guardians after an on-campus or community-wide emergency situation that prevents students from leaving schools under routine processes. STC reunion protocols could be put in place for a variety of emergencies, including (but not limited to) a natural gas leak, carbon monoxide detection, bomb threat, fire or active shooter.
We believe the process by which we would get our students back with their families is one of the most important parts of an emergency that could occur. If any 8th grade parents would like to be a part of this drill on May 1 from 8:30-10:00, please contact Kristin Kriener at kkriener@st-teresa.pvt.k12.ia.us. We would appreciate your feedback.
