Kia ora e te whānau
Our school was abuzz with whānau last week! Two evenings of student led conferences were followed by an early morning Matariki celebration on Thursday. We were delighted to see that both the conferences and our Matariki celebration were well attended by our supportive PDS community. Thank you to our staff for their ongoing work and commitment to the learning and well-being of our tamariki.
Matariki Celebration 2024
A brisk walk to Resolution Point was rewarded this year by clear skies and a beautiful waiata from our Kapa Haka group. After a karakia kai back at school, breakfast was served! It was wonderful to see so many of our whānau join us for this annual celebration. Special thanks to Sue Lyons and Louise Mann for organising this successful event.
Red Nose Day
This Friday, Te Arawa Waka will be hosting their annual Red Nose day event at our school. The event supports the charity, Cure Kids, which is dedicated to funding research to improve the health of children in New Zealand.
How can you support Cure Kids?
Non-uniform day. We encourage all children make a cash donation and to wear something red on Friday.Red Nose Day Merch. Our waka leaders will be selling a range of red nose day merchandise, including red noses, bands and stickers. While there is a minimum donation per item, all donations are welcome.
Buy a raffle ticket ($5). We have fund raising goals for the school. We are raffling the opportunity to be the person that tips the slime in assembly if we reach our goal. If we raise $500, a waka leader is getting slimed. If we raise $1000, one of the teachers will get slimed. $2000, one of the deputy Principals will get slimed. $4000 Mr. George will get slimed. Raffle tickets are available on Thursday before and after school.
Donations, big or small, are greatly appreciated and every dollar we raise goes straight to this amazing charity.
Farewell Mr Chang
After seven years, Mr Enchante Chang will finish his time at Parnell District School at the end of Term Two. A dedicated classroom teacher, Mr Chang has held numerous leadership positions at our school. He has accepted a position to teach and lead Math at St Thomas’ school in Kohimarama.
I know you will join me in thanking Mr Chang for all he has contributed to Parnell District School. We wish him well in this next career stage and his new leadership role. A farewell for Mr Chang will be held at our end-of-term assembly at 2 p.m. on Friday, 5 July.
Welcome Miss Sade
We are thrilled to welcome back Miss Seriya Sade to Parnell District School. Many of you will remember Miss Sade, who worked at Parnell District School until 2023, when she left to travel. Miss Sade has already had the pleasure of doing some relieving in our school this year and is eager to rejoin our team.
