Mrs. Mohr's Weekly Update
November 18-22nd
Hello!
We had a great Veterans Day program on Monday! Our students did an outstanding job honoring our local Veterans. We were so fortunate to have Willow Lake Alum SFC Rorie Gregor as our speaker! We appreciate her taking time out of her busy schedule to speak to us. Thank you to our Veterans for their service to our country!
Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday and Tuesday, November 25th and 26th from 3:00-7:00 PM. School will be dismissing at 2:25 for the elementary and 2:30 for Middle and High School. Elementary conferences are scheduled and held in elementary classrooms. You may enter the school through Door C by the flagpole. A schedule will be sent home this week. Please let the office know if the time does not work for you. Middle and High School Conferences will be held in the new gym. You may enter the school through Door F by the new gym. Special Education teachers will be in their classrooms. If you have conferences at both levels, we ask that you exit and re-enter the building through doors C or F. There will be cookies and coffee available for you to enjoy. These conferences provide an excellent opportunity to discuss your child’s progress, celebrate achievements, and collaborate on strategies to ensure their continued success. We believe that strong communication between home and school is key to your child’s growth and development. Your involvement plays a significant role in their academic success and personal well-being. We hope to see you there!
It looks like there is a high chance of precipitation in the week ahead. Please make sure your child has proper outdoor gear. If you are in need of winter apparel, please contact Mrs. Nelson, Dawn, or me. All grade levels of students have the opportunity to be outside every day.
We are excited to welcome Cory Greenwood to Willow Lake to speak with our students this week. He will present to elementary, middle, and high school students. Please see the videos below to hear more about his presentation.
Our week will end with our annual Turkey Trot. All parents and loved ones of students grades K-5 are invited to meet on the playground at 2:15 on Friday, November 22nd. We will walk approximately 1 mile around town before returning to school for hot cocoa and cookies. Right now, the high is 32 degrees, so bundle up!
Thank you for your continued support to the school!

SDHSAA Economic Impact Survey
Dear Parents/Guardians/Fans,
The SDHSAA is attempting to gather the economic impact data of our state events for the purposes of engaging local chambers of commerce to explore ways to keep costs to families down and to explore cost saving avenues for our member schools. We started this last year with state volleyball and will end it this fall with state football. Your responses are confidential and are anonymously compiled within the IMPLAN Economic Impact computer program. No identifying data will be asked of you or used within the study. We appreciate you taking the time to help us with this undertaking. Your feedback is necessary and appreciated. If possible, please take the survey as soon after your event as possible, as our IMPLAN license runs out shortly after the fall season. The survey can be accessed at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DS7TQNX
Once again, I thank you for your time and I thank you for supporting high school education-based athletics and activities.
Sincerely,
Dan Swartos
SDHSAA Executive Director

Thoughts from Erica: We are starting to pack up to get ready to head back down to Sioux Falls on Monday. I think each time it gets harder to go back, but it's where he needs to be to get well.
He will receive high doses of Cytarabine again this cycle which he has received during the previous cycles and will also receive Mitoxantrone for the first time. There are some potential side effects on the heart from Mitoxantrone so he will also take a preventative medication that will hopefully minimize those affects. Levi has a congenital heart condition called Left Ventricular Non-Compaction Cardiomyopathy and there isn't much research available about AML and his heart condition so it's somewhat unknown as to how it will affect him, but they will watch him closely. Sometimes issues are noticed down the road as well so Levi will have echocardiograms every year for a few years after his treatment. If those stay good, he will have an echo once every 5 years for the rest of his life.
Dr. Nelson also stated that during this next round he is at an increased risk for infections that translocate from his stomach into his blood stream and they will monitor him closely for any sign of infection and treat him with antibiotics right away.
For the most part Levi continues to remain in good spirits. During his bone marrow biopsy this past Wednesday he asked Dr. Nelson about when he might be able to return to school and she said depending on how he's feeling he may be able to attend this spring. He has his fingers crossed that he might be able to attend a Cyclone basketball game towards the end of the season 🤞.
Levi's doctors, nurses, and all of the staff at Sanford Children's Hospital continue to be amazing and I couldn't speak more highly of them. My daily prayers tend to be a bit more wordy, but I recently found a short prayer that spoke to me that now just might be on repeat "Bless all of Levi's doctors and nurses with wisdom, skill, and compassion and may they always be guided by your hand in their work." 🧡
