School Photos are Ready for Viewing/Ordering!
Use THIS LINK to view/order your child's school photo. Your password is your child's student ID# (their lunch number).
Picture retakes/makeups will be on Wednesday, November 13.
Any child who did not have a photo taken on October 9 will automatically be included in makeups.
Please complete this form if you would like your child to have their photo retaken.
We're excited to announce our Read-a-thon winners and cap off the celebration with a book character parade at our October 25 Community Circle (8:30 a.m.). Students may come to school dressed as a children's book character, and each class will exit Community Circle by parading down our driveway (toward Mead), onto the front sidewalk, back up the driveway and into the building. Please take your photos before school or as your child is walking by and do not remove them from the parade for photos or extra hugs goodbye! Thank you for helping us keep all of our students safe.
This week is Digital Citizenship Week!
We've been using materials from the Common Sense Media Digital Citizenship curriculum to begin/continue teaching our students the importance of screen time balance and being safe, responsible, and kind online. If you'd like to learn more about digital citizenship and/or you're looking for some great resources to guide family tech use/balance, this flyer has lots of great links to Common Sense Media resources.
Oakhurst families, please complete and submit this food insecurity request form if your student is experiencing food insecurity within the home and is in need of some supplemental weekend snacks. The Decatur Education Foundation supplies Oakhurst with snack bags for any student in need. This request form will go directly to our school counselor, Ms. King, and she will send home a snack bag with your student every Friday. Please go through each week's snack bag to remove any snack you may not want your child to have due to allergy concerns, etc.
CSD Digital Learning Day
Tuesday, November 5 is a CSD Digital Learning Day and there will be no in-person school. On Monday, November 4, students will receive a Digital Learning Day choice board with options to engage in standards-based learning for the day. In addition to the choice board, our hope is that families will share their voting experience with their children!

UPDATE: 2024-25 Fit Georgia Assessment Waived
We previously communicated that all students enrolled in a PE class in CSD would be taking part in the state’s new Fit GA fitness assessment this year. However, due to continued, unresolved technical issues with the state’s new Fit GA platform, CSD has decided to waive participation in the Fit GA assessment for the 2024-25 school year. While some classes and students already participated in a pre-test, no classes or students will be post-tested this year.

STEP UP for Decatur Youth!
DEF was founded more than 20 years ago by a group of residents who wanted to ensure that EVERY student in CSD had what they needed to learn and thrive. Today, DEF's mission remains focused on Decatur's kids and educators, and we are still 100% reliant on the support of the Decatur community. DEF puts the community's contributions where they will have the biggest impact for our students, and DEF's Step Up Circle is a special group of supporters that allows us to operate programs like Lighten the Load, Teacher Innovation Grants, behavioral health support, arts programming, and so much more. There are also benefits - for both businesses and individuals - to joining DEF's Step Up Circle (beyond the warm and fuzzy feeling you get from supporting Decatur's kids!). Visit https://decatureducationfoundation.org/step-up-circle/ to learn more about the different giving levels.
