November News:
Hello Meyer Middle School Families!
November is one of my favorite months of the year at Meyer Middle School. We will once again be honoring our veterans at our Veterans Day program scheduled for Monday, November 11th beginning at 1:30PM in the middle school gymnasium. All families, veterans and community members are invited. Our keynote speaker is community member and School District of River Falls employee Terry Slaught.
Further, in the month of November, our students, families and staff go above and beyond raising money and food for the River Falls Community Food Pantry through our “Penny Wars” competition the week before Thanksgiving Break. Last November, Meyer Middle School raised over $6,125 and collected 2134 pounds of food. Over the past eleven years our Meyer Middle School students have raised a total of $70,000 and have collected over 15,000 pounds of food to help families in need.
In closing, I want to personally say “thank you” to all of our veterans for your service and sacrifice and for reminding us that “freedom is never free.”

- The Pierce County Veterans Service Office is excited to be able to bring the award winning Off Broadway play "The American Soldier" to River Falls on Veterans Day to honor and celebrate the bravery and sacrifices of our American Soldiers. It is a powerful one-man show based on letters from Veterans and their families spanning from the Revolution to our recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Its goal is to say THANK YOU to our Veterans to their families. It is a play that gives those who may have no understanding or connection to the military a better understanding of what service and sacrifices are. It is a play that will deepen your understanding of the experiences that our service members endure. It is a show that you do not want to miss. We would like to note that this show does contain strong language as well as sounds of gunfire & explosions. This event is sponsored by the Pierce County Veterans Service Office and is FREE to attend. There is limited seating so be sure to reserve your tickets today: The American Soldier

We get a percentage of the sales, but our plan is to make it all our own.

Staff Spotlight
Kara Wellman is our new 8 Blue ELA Teacher. In college, she tried out a few different majors until, thanks to a fantastic professor, she decided on English Education. However, her goal was to teach at the college level, and she ended up graduating with a Bachelors in Creative Writing. It wasn't until five years later that Kara went back to school for her Masters and licensure to teach English.
Staff Spotlight
Kara is originally from River Falls, but her husband is from Montana. They have lived back and forth over the years, but purchased their home in March and are here to stay! She feels very lucky to have found herself back at MMS. Outside of school, she loves doing anything creative! In her five year break, she started a little business as a metalsmith (making sterling silver jewelry), and she now enjoys it as her "summer job."
