ERIKSON AND HIS STAGES
Personality development is in a series of stages
Basic Theroy Explanation
Erikson beleived that personality develops on a series of 8 stages and each stage has a basic conflict. And each stage had a basic need and an outcome.
Pros and cons of the therory
The pro and cons vary between people but some pros I have concluded are that Erikson's theroy was easy to follow and was set up by ages which made it clear to understand. But some of the cons I've seen are that it is out dated because our life stages are changing due to society and so it is hard to compare to the newest generations.
General Information on Erikson
Erik Homburger Erikson (15 June 1902 – 12 May 1994) was a Geman-born American developmental psychologist. He was raised Jewish but converted to christianity when he got married. He fled Germany with his wife when Hitler came into power and went to Boston, where he was the first psychoanalyst. He then became a professor at high class institutions such as Harvard. He then came to conclude his development of egos, and then his 8 stages of the human personalities.
How the theory could be applied and how it still exist in today.
Most high schools have a child development class that teaches theorist. Also if you are a teacher you can apply Erikson's theory by compairing their age to his stages and then focus on the needs in that stage. Once you focus on that need the personality of that student will shine and with help the child improve on to the next stage of development.
