Principal's Corner
Dear SKDS Family,
We have Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences coming up. Your scheduled time to meet with your child's teacher will come home in the Family Folder on Thursday, October 10. Parent-teacher conferences in a Catholic school setting hold particular significance because they offer a whole-child approach to education, focusing not only on academic progress but also on spiritual, emotional, and moral development. Here’s why they are important:
1. Fostering Collaboration in Education
- Catholic schools emphasize the partnership between parents and educators as co-responsible for a child’s development. Conferences strengthen this collaboration, ensuring both parties align on educational goals and values.
2. Whole-Child Development
- Catholic education seeks to nurture not just the intellect but also the spiritual and moral aspects of a student. Parent-teacher conferences provide an opportunity to discuss how a child is growing in their faith, values, and character, in addition to academics.
3. Reinforcing Catholic Identity
- These meetings offer a space to discuss how a child is engaging with religious teachings, prayer life, and participation in community service or liturgical events. This helps ensure that students are absorbing and living out Catholic principles.
4. Addressing Academic and Behavioral Needs Early
- Conferences allow teachers to inform parents about academic achievements or challenges, as well as social and behavioral development in the context of Catholic teachings. Early intervention can be discussed, which helps prevent small issues from escalating.
5. Building a Stronger School Community
- Catholic schools often foster tight-knit communities centered around shared values. Regular communication through conferences helps build trust and cooperation between families and teachers, enhancing the sense of belonging within the school.
6. Encouraging Parental Involvement in Faith Formation
- These meetings also offer a chance to discuss the role of parents in reinforcing faith at home, helping ensure that the child’s Catholic formation is supported both at school and in the family environment.
In summary, parent-teacher conferences in Catholic schools provide a well-rounded view of a student’s development, ensuring that academic, moral, and spiritual growth are equally prioritized in the child's education.
Blessings,
Ms. Weiss
Theme Day 2024
We had a beautiful Theme Day on Friday, September 27. Beginning with Mass, we got the day started in fine form. The children prayed, sang, read, and played their instruments wonderfully. The remainder of the day was filled with activities including the making of Fall door hangers and cards for the nursing homes. We took an all-school picture and the students also spent time with their buddies. We ended our day by watching the movie, The Prince of Egypt. It was great to celebrate our theme, “Live Like Jesus!”
The 8th-Grade Spaghetti Supper is this Saturday!

Let us pray...
Family Prayer
God made us a family,
We need one another,
We love one another,
We forgive one another,
We work together,
We play together,
We worship together,
Together we use God’s word,
Together we grow in Christ,
Together we love all people,
Together we serve our God,
Together we hope for Heaven.
These are our hopes and ideals,
Help us to attain them O God.
Through Jesus Christ, Our Lord.
Amen.
