The Raptor Report
October 2024 - "Rolling Hills Sticks Together"
From the Principal
Hello Rolling Hills Families,
We’ve had a wonderful start to the school year here at Rolling Hills! There’s a fresh sense of excitement in the building, especially with the arrival of our new 5K students. They’ve brought a lively and fun energy to our days, and it’s been heartwarming to watch them begin to adjust to school routines. These young learners are already starting to work together, learning to respect personal space, share, and solve problems with one another. The progress they’ve made since the first day of school has been amazing! I’ve also been so proud of our older students, who have stepped up as role models, leading by example and warmly including our new friends in all activities. Let’s continue showing the Raptor Way by being respectful, responsible, and safe!
We’re so fortunate to have welcomed many new families into our community this year. A special thank you goes out to all the parents who were able to attend our first PTO meeting of the year—we truly appreciate your involvement. Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 6:00 pm in the RHES library. We hope to see you there!
October is shaping up to be a busy and exciting month! Fire Prevention Week runs from October 7th to 11th, and we are grateful to have the Mukwonago Fire Department joining us on Friday, October 11th to talk about fire safety with our K-2 students. During this same week, we’re also hosting the Scholastic Book Fair, which supports our PTO’s efforts to fund student and staff needs. The Book Fair will coincide with Grandparent Lunch Week from October 7th to 11th. We’ve set aside special days for each grade to attend, and all visitors will need to pre-register using the provided link. Please note that grandparents/visitors should bring their own lunches, and students will stick to their regular academic and lunch schedules. If you have multiple students, you’re welcome to stay for more than one lunch period to visit with them all. To keep disruptions to a minimum, we ask that students only leave class for their scheduled lunch and recess time.
Lastly, I want to thank you for your continued support of our school safety efforts. Ensuring the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. As part of these efforts, we will continue screening visitors, so if you’re planning to visit or pick up your child before the end of the school day, please be ready to show your driver’s license at the welcome window.
Wishing you all a fantastic October!
Dr. Ron Schlicht, Principal

This short 10-15 minute show features our Rolling Hills students as reporters and highlights classroom work, the Raptor Way, and our morning routines.
We will be recording our episodes using a green screen app, editing them, and viewing them as a video link on the first Monday of each month starting October 3. You don’t have to watch it live… archived copies will be available all year long on our website!
School Counselor Note
Dear Families,
My name is Mrs. Langer and I am the new full-time school counselor at RHES. I am so excited to be here and have the pleasure to teach all grades K-6th Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in their classrooms. Grades 1st-6th will have SEL every other week. Kindergarten will have SEL EVERY week this year. I am excited for this change with our little ones, and the opportunity to give them extra lessons related to their social and emotional growth. I am also available to meet one-on-one with students and in small groups to work on strategies and problem solving skills for social, emotional, and academic concerns.
To start off the school year, we have implemented common vocabulary for identifying feelings and strategies for coping with our feelings using the program Zones of Regulation. Every classroom is now able to identify what feelings are in the Blue zone, Green zone, Yellow zone, and Red Zone. We learned that we do our best learning when we are in the Green zone. We call this being “ready to learn.” We also learned that all feelings are okay and all zones are okay. But when we are in the Blue, Yellow, or Red zone, we can use a strategy to help get back to the Green zone.
I have included images to help have a better understanding of which feelings go in each zone and what strategies students can use to help get them back to the Green zone. We will continue to use this language and practice these strategies throughout the school year.
If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, don’t hesitate to reach out! It is my hope to work with families, as well as teachers, other school staff, and community partners to best support your student(s) here at school. I am looking forward to a great year at Rolling Hills!
Mrs. Jes Langer

Student Council
We have our 2024-2025 Student Council Representatives! We asked interested 4th, 5th, and 6th graders to complete an application by answering three questions as well as obtaining a teacher recommendation and based on the over 50 applications we received, we’d like to announce our 2024-2025 Student Council:

The Executive Board members for our Rolling Hills Student Council are; Olivia J, Abigail K, Keegan W, Max K, Livia L, Arlo P, Jocelyn S, Zoey T, and Eva T
They will be learning to plan Student Council meetings, write agendas, take attendance and run our meetings.
Remember to refer to our “Rolling Hills Theme Days” calendar to stay up-to-date with our scheduled “spirit” days. We will also be celebrating Homecoming Week to support Mukwonago High School, September 30-October 4. Please see the days Rolling Hills is having to cheer on the high school for this Week of Spirit!
Believe it or not, Student Council has already participated in our first community service project for the year! We worked at Mukwonago Fall Fest on Saturday, September 21, on the front lawn of E & S Sweets, Mukwonago’s very own candy shop. Student Council members worked in shifts, facilitating STEM Candy Activities for children in our community. E & S Sweets donated all candy and materials for these activities. The STEM activities included:
Design a New Candy Challenge
Gummy Bear Taste Test Challenge
Marshmallow Leaf Challenge
Candy Science with Skittles
It was awesome to watch our Student Council members interact with the children and display patience and teaching, listening and speaking skills! Mrs. Barton, Ms. Johnsen and Mr. Johnson are looking forward to a great year of leadership!
The Raptor Way
Our focus of the month was all about random acts of kindness. We can do this two different ways: Team Work: When we work together and focus on a common goal, we show kindness and demonstrate respect. Examples: Actively listen to group members, respect others’ ideas, and take turns.Kindness to Your School: Don’t overlook the daily random acts of kindness that you can do in your school. Examples: Clean up after yourself, Hold doors for others, Give compliments.
To go along with our school theme this year “Rolling Hills sticks together” our stick together duo for the month is Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches - we can stick together like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. You can be a friend at school who is supportive! Just like a PB&J sandwich that will taste good, providing support for your friends is just as great! That friendship will provide the glue to stick together just like the peanut butter and jelly does during these challenging times at school! Stay tuned for future stick together duos!
Entire classes are also rewarded for showing the Raptor Way. Each month the specialists award the K-3 and 4-6 classrooms with Golden Awards. Congratulations to the SEPTEMBER winners:
Golden Shoe: 2nd Grade Ms. Napierala and 6th Grade Mrs. MacFarland
Golden Book: Kindergarten Ms. Shea and 4th Grade Mrs. Arnold
Golden Pallett: 2nd Grade Mrs. Sweet and 6th Grade Mr. Anderson
Golden Note: 1st Grade Ms. Taylor and 6th Grade Mr. Wright
Golden Dustpan: 2nd Grade and 3rd Grade
.
The ROAR Store is opening in October and everyone is looking forward to shopping with their ROAR cards earned for safe, responsible and respectful behavior. 5th and 6th graders were using their ROAR cards to help their class earn the privilege of a kickball game! We always look for donations for the ROAR store. You may send donations to school or contact Ms. Napierala! Thanks!

Lunch Fees for 2024-25
Hot lunch (including milk) is available daily for $3.20. The cost of ala carte milk is $.50. Funds should be deposited to your child's Infinite Campus food service account. You may check the balance at any time by accessing the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. You will receive an automatic low balance or negative balance phone call when your child needs money added to his/her account.
Payments may be made online through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal, or paid by check made out to MASD and sent to the school office. Our free/reduced-price lunch application is also available in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal for families wishing to apply for assistance.
End of Day Transportation Change
If your child's plan for dismissal time is going to be different than his/her usual way of getting home, you MUST SEND A NOTE informing the teacher of your expectations for that day. If your plans change unexpectedly during the day, you may call the office prior to 2:30 p.m to give us this information. Please remember that changes are confusing for many children and disruptive to teachers at the last minute. If we do not have notification of a change from a parent, we will have to send your child home following the plan we were given at the beginning of the year.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Volunteers
The Mukwonago Area School District understands that it takes students, staff, and the community to build better schools. One way the community can support our schools is through their time. We are grateful for the help of volunteers at each of our schools.
In order to provide for the safety and well-being of our students the Board of Education requires a background check for all volunteers. Background checks will be conducted prior to the individual’s first assignment in the District. Approval of volunteer applications are subject to District review.
If you are interested in volunteering, you will need to complete the online volunteer application no later than five school days prior to your first volunteer assignment in our schools. Your approved volunteer application will remain active for two years and is good for any school in the District.
Theme Days
Every Friday is a Rolling Hills Theme Day. Wear your Rolling Hills wear, Mukwonago wear or Blue and Gold!
