TERM 1 INTERIM REPORTS
October 4th marks the halfway point for Term 1. As you are able to monitor your child's progress on Aspen, our online grading and attendance program, we recommend you check your child's academic progress to date. On October 9th, Aspen will provide you with detailed information regarding your child's completion of assignments and attendance, as well as information on classwork, homework, quizzes, and test scores. Hopefully, this information will enable you to have meaningful conversations with your child about their progress and/or expectations.

Updates From The Principal
Hello NRMS Families,
A wonderful way to get involved with our school and support our students is by joining the PTO. We had a great meeting on Tuesday evening and the PTO has a number of good ideas. The PTO has established a "playbook" of events and fundraisers that just need parents/guardians to take the lead on each of these. This includes luncheons/dinners for the faculty, socials/dances for the students, the annual wreath sale, etc. Please consider finding at least one event or fundraiser that you can help organize. Email the PTO at PTONRMS@gmail.com for more information and to get on their mailing list. Most meetings are only 45 minutes and many meetings take place virtually online. A number of parents who helped out in the past have children who are now at the high school, so we need you. Please consider joining the PTO today.
The state released MCAS results to the public earlier this week. While the headlines focus on gaps in learning in this post-pandemic time period, our scores at the middle school are trending in the right direction and place us ahead of state averages. Additionally, our students recently completed the iReady diagnostic assessments in reading and math and again, our scores are trending in the right direction for most students. Individual score reports should arrive to us in October and then we will mail those reports home. Among the highlights of our MCAS results are the following data points:
Grade 6 Math: Percentage of students Exceeding/Meeting Expectations increased from 31% to 45%
Grade 6 ELA: Percentage of students Exceeding Expectations increased from 9% to 22%
These are significant gains that we hope to build on this year. We recognize there is more work to do, and we are proud of the fact that we are trending in the right direction.
The iReady scores help us identify students that may need to participate in a math boost or reading boost course in place of another exploratory course or in place of learning a world language. We will reach out to you if your child is recommended for one of the boost classes.
In order to support your child at home with staying on top of assignments and upcoming assessments, please review the Week-At-A -Glance document with your child each week. The links are below.
After school clubs are beginning. We will share information with students and with you. We encourage students to join a club, play a sport, join a musical performance group, join the drama production, and find ways to be even more connected with the school.
Have a great weekend.
