NWMS Weekly Parent Update
October 14-18
Reminders and Updates
Good afternoon Vikings,
Please see the below message from Ms. Minner and the FCCLA Club. Ms. Minner is collaborating with all of the clubs in our school to coordinate this effort.
In light of the recent events in Western North Carolina, FCCLA has transitioned their fundraiser to a service project. We are partnering with administrators at Ashe County Middle School in Warrensville to collect items for their students. They are the only middle school in Ashe County with approximately 403 students. Many of their students have lost everything and are worried about book bags, notebooks, pencils, etc. They will definitely need warm coats for their students because evenings are already getting chilly. Please consider sending shoes, pants, sweaters, coats, socks, backpacks and school supplies to donate during morning drop off. Members of FCCLA will be collecting donations Monday - Wednesday next week. Feel free to send items with bus riders. They can drop them in the front commons before school. Thanks for your support!
It's a Great Day to be a Viking!

Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week is October 23 – 31, 2024. GCS is using the theme “Be kind to your mind. Live Drug-Free.” again this year.
We support and enhance the health and safety of our students when we consistently share a clear message about the importance of healthy lifestyles (as well as the dangers of nicotine, alcohol, and other drug use).
Red Ribbon Week is an opportunity to begin conversations with our students and families about how to stay healthy and drug-free. Additional resources to address substance use can be found on the GCS Drug-Free Schools webpage.
Student Fall Picture Information
All students who had their picture taken on Fall Picture Day brought home a flyer with their unique picture code for parents to use when ordering pictures. Parents can now access and order pictures. The free shipping window has closed at this time.
Also, if a student was absent on Picture Day the makeup day for pictures is Oct. 16th. Make-up pictures will be made in the Front Commons. Students who want their picture re-taken can also have this done on Oct. 16th. Any student attending the Unity Day event with Mr. Luck should be able to have their pictures made before they leave for the trip.
