Message from Mr. O'Rourke
Dear Hillcat Families,
It has been truly exciting to see our hallways bustling with energy, noise and laughter over the first three weeks. The enthusiasm from both students and staff is amazing, and it sets a positive tone for the rest of the year.
Our students have already begun to engage deeply with their academics, participate in extracurricular activities, and build lasting friendships. The dedication of our teachers and staff to create a supportive and dynamic learning environment is evident every day.
As we continue this journey, I encourage everyone to keep up the momentum. Let's work together to maintain this atmosphere and support each other in achieving our goals.
We thank you for being an essential part of our school community. Your involvement and support make all the difference.
Warm regards,
Jim O'Rourke
Principal

School Counseling News
- The School Counselors will be taking any interested seniors to the fall College Fair hosted by Southern NH University on Tuesday, September 24th. College fairs are great opportunities for students to learn about several colleges, their programs/student life, and meet with their admissions representatives in person! Permission slips are available in the Counseling Center or Welcome Center and are due Thursday, September 19th.
- There will be a Financial Aid Overview night for seniors and their families Thursday, October 3rd, at 6:30pm. This year our presentation will be held remotely through Zoom. This presentation will help families navigate through the federal financial aid process (FAFSA) and explore additional types of aid available. Students and families must pre-register for this presentation at:

If you have any questions please reach out to your School Counselor.
International Trip to Spain!
Dear families,
We’re going to Spain in Spring 2025, and you’re invited to our information session Oct. 1st! We’re excited to tell you more about the trip we’re planning with EF Tours, our educational travel partner. Please be sure to register for this info session to be considered for this opportunity: https://rsvp.eftours.com/kwntnud
When students travel, they expand their knowledge of the world around them, discover more about themselves, and grow more confident. These skills are critical for creating the global citizens of tomorrow, and we would love to have your student join us on this adventure.
There are limited spots on this trip, so we would love to have you attend this meeting to learn more about this exciting opportunity! Contact jthompson@hdsd.org or mprentiss@hdsd.org for more information.
Thanks,
Jeramy Thompson & Michelle Prentiss

Weather permitting, Physics students will have their water rocket launch this week.
Learn the Rules of Integer Operations Through Song
Students in Pre-Algebra are learning the rules of integer operations through song! A catchy tune and repetition helps students remember, and in turn apply the rules of integer operations while making the learning fun! The link below brings you to an example of a song we've listened to this year.

A Message from Student Council
Message from Student Voice
HDHS Student Council has been busy! We began the year as student leaders helping to plan for the first days of school. We met a week before school began to run workshops and plan for the first day for Freshmen. We finalized the first day's schedule and planned icebreakers such as "getting to know you" card stacking. The Student Council has also been planning for Homecoming and participating in advisory visits for “ask the expert” days. What we are focusing on this year as an overall theme is “Student Involvement." Student Body President Kathryn Thyng and Mr. Thompson have been visiting advisories every Wednesday for “ask the expert days” where the students are the experts for a change. Each advisory representative helps run a round robin where students answer questions like what student involvement means to them. What we hope to do is gather data so that we can come to a conclusion on how to move forward on our goal of increasing student involvement and bettering the feeling of community at HDHS.

HDHS Craft Fair
Attention vendors! If you are interested in being part of the HDHS Christmas Craft Fair on December 7, please contact Michelle Prentiss or Abigail McHugh at mprentiss@hdsd.org and amchugh@hdsd.org . We will be sending out registration information shortly! The fair will be held at the high school from 10:00 am-2:00 pm and runs the same weekend as Hillsboro's Old Fashioned Christmas. It's a great opportunity to showcase your work and get into the holiday spirit. Thank you!
A Sea of Lost and Found
Hillsboro-Deering High School students have been washing and sorting through a sea of lost and found items left at the school over the summer. Items are being categorized by type and size and then placed in our Hillcat Clothes Closet located in the School Counseling Center hallway. This tsunami of clothing covered every desk and table top until the students started tackling this whale of a job.
Students can go to the closet ant any time to grab an item if needed during the school day or to cover up. Who knows, maybe they will see something familiar! Any items that can’t fit in our clothes closet are being donated to the Hillsborough Clothes Closet located on Church Street.
