mClass Spring Benchmark Testing
As part of The Alaska Reads Act, the State of Alaska requires that districts administer an early literacy screening tool three times a year to students in grades K-3 to identify potential reading difficulties in order to improve reading outcomes for students. Families can read more about this comprehensive K-3 reading policy at The Alaska Reads Act website: education.alaska.gov/akreads
mClass with DIBELS 8th Edition Assessments is the State of Alaska Department of Education’s and ASD’s Early Literacy benchmark screening and progress monitoring tool for students in grades K-3 in reading. mClass utilizes curriculum-based measures and is used by schools as part of the ASD Comprehensive Assessment System to support informed instructional decisions.
The Alaska Department of Education & Early Development explains the decision to adopt mClass as the statewide literacy screener here:
https://education.alaska.gov/Alaska-Reading-Resources/Statewide-Early-Literacy-Screener
mClass screening assessments will only be administered in-person during the benchmark window listed below:
Spring(EOY) 2023-24: April 22-May 3
Results for K-3 students that were assessed during a benchmark window, will be available in Parent Connect by May 17, 2024: ParentConnection Login Information and Reference Guide: parentconnect.asdk12.org

- Students in grades K-4 should not be crossing the crosswalk to the parking lot without an adult. Please accompany your child across the crosswalk when coming to pick them up.
- Please do not park or drop off on the cross walk.

We’re going to end the year with a BANG! Students have an opportunity to audition to be a part of this year’s Talent Show. In order to keep the Talent Show to an hour, not all students who audition will be in this year’s show. Please be prepared for this possibility. I have attached the permission slip needed to audition.
- Audition Dates: Wednesday, April 17th, OR Thursday, April 18th, from 3:30pm-5:00pm in the Music Room
- Talent Show Date: Friday, May 3rd, at 1:45pm (school assembly) & 6:30pm in the Gym. All performers must stay until the end of the show for the final bow.

24-25 School Start Times
Important Campfire Information
Dear Camp Fire Families,
We want to inform you of some important changes to our School Age Program for the 2024-2025 school year. Due to the Anchorage School District school start time changes to take effect in August 2024, our program offerings will change.
All Camp Fire Alaska program locations will only offer an extended afterschool program from 2:30pm-6:00pm daily to accommodate the new school schedule. The shortened window before school start time does not allow us to provide a morning program, therefore, Camp Fire Alaska will no longer be able to offer before school programs.
Camp Fire Afterschool Program cost will be $560/month. If you are a family who will need financial assistance to attend Camp Fire program next school year, please read about our scholarship process here.
We recognize that these changes will have a significant impact on families, and we are continuing to work closely with other out-of-school-time partners, the Anchorage School District, and the Alaska Afterschool Network to help families and the community make this transition. You can learn more about the new school schedules and access resources here to plan for next school year.
Camp Fire registration for the 2024-2025 school year will open Wednesday, March 20th at 10am AKST for all currently enrolled families, and on March 22nd at 10am AKST for all other families.
Please reach out to our Family Services Manager at campfire@campfireak.org or call our main office with any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Mel Hooper, CEO
