Gratitude from Principal Wade
Thank you EDW scholars, staff, families and community! It was so wonderful to see so many faces at our Open House/Welcome Back Picnic last night. I heard scholars sharing with family how excited they were to show them their new classrooms - so THANK YOU ALL for your grace and patience as Phase 1 of Construction wraps up.
Constitution Day
Tuesday, September 17th marks the 237th anniversary of the signing of the US Constitution in 1787. The US Constitution established how the new government of the United States would organize and govern the new nation and is seen as one of the most influential documents in history. An important fact, which has often been overlooked, is the contribution of the Native American people at that time. The Haudenosaunee Confederacy, sometimes called the Iroquois Confederacy, had been living with this form of government for hundreds of years and taught the white settlers this form of government that allowed individuals to vote and be represented. It took hundreds of years for all people’s voices to be counted, and there are still debates about voting rights. Today, we recognize and honor all voices who helped create the US Constitution and all of us who can participate in making it even better.

Arrival & Dismissal
Hello EDW Families!
It is so important to us that all of our scholars are arriving and leaving from school in a safe way - so I want to make sure that all families and scholars have the same information.
Arrival:
- Scholars in CID ~ drop off at 9:15 AM at Door 13.
- All other scholars being dropped off are able to enter the building at 9:25 AM. There is no supervision prior to that time.
- Grades K-1 enter via Door 12.
- Grades 2-6 enter via Door 1 (main entrance).
- Scholars being dropped off in the morning by a parent or caregiver - it is important that you pull up as far as possible in the drop off lane. That is not a parking lane and the adult is not permitted to leave their vehicle unattended to walk their scholar(s) into the building. There are staff members outside at arrival that will ensure scholars get to where they need to get to.
- ALL Scholars arriving via bus enter via Door 13
Dismissal:
- Scholars being picked up:
- Grades K-1 exit via Door 12
- If scholars being picked up (and not riding a bus) in grades 2-6 have a sibling(s) in Kindergarten or Grade 1, they will also exit via Door 12.
- Grades 2-6 exit via Door 1 (main entrance)
- Scholars being picked up at the end of the day must remain near the main entrance on the grassy area. Families must pick scholars up from the pick up lane - or park in the lot or on the street if they wish to exit their vehicle and meet their scholar(s). Vehicles may not be parked and left unattended in the pick up lane.
- ALL scholars riding a bus home will exit via Door 13
Additional Information:
- Please use the drop-off lanes at arrival and dismissal. We do not want scholars walking through any parking lots.
- Please do not block the bus lanes.
Every Meal Program
At EDW, we work hard to ensure students receive a healthy breakfast and lunch each day to support their developing brains and bodies. Research shows that children who eat regular, nutritious meals are more likely to attend school and be engaged in learning. We partner with Every Meal to offer a free weekend meal program to all our students. The program is:
Free for all families
No qualifications required
Students enrolled in the program will receive a 4-5 pound bag of nutritious, nonperishable food each week
Every Meal does not collect information from families; privacy is protected
Families may choose to participate in the program anytime throughout the school year
Families may choose from a variety of different weekend food bag options
To sign up, complete and return the pamphlet form sent home with your child OR complete this digital form. If you were enrolled last year, you need to enroll again this year. Questions? Email emilia.temple@isd623.org.
Welcome Back to School from the Health Office!
Attendance:
Please report all absences and attendance information to the EDW Attendance Line (edw-attendance@isd623.org or 651-259-1980). Absences should be reported by 10:00 AM. Regular and on-time attendance is crucial for children's learning!
Medications:
If there are medications that need to be given at school, please email the nurse for more information or stop into the Health Office. All medications (including things like cough drops and Tylenol) need to be given through the Health Office. Please do NOT give medications to teachers – the Health Office staff needs to confirm health conditions, paperwork, medications, and expiration dates.
Extra Clothing:
Please include a change of clothes in your child's backpack. Bathroom accidents and messes on the playground sometimes happen, so it's important for students to have a change of clothes available when necessary.
Is My Child Well Enough to Come to School?
If your child has a fever of 100 degrees or more, they should stay home for 24 hours after the temperature returns to normal and remains normal without fever-reducing medication.
If your child has vomited or has diarrhea, they should stay home until 24 hours after the last episode.
If your child had any rash that may be disease-related or the cause is unknown, check with your healthcare provider before sending them back to school.
If your child is ill, please call the school to report the illness.
It is okay to come to school if your student has a runny nose or little cough but no fever.
COVID Reminder: If your student tests positive for COVID, simply keep them home until they meet general wellness guidelines listed above. Please alert the attendance office each day of the absence.

Information about New Bus Routing System
Roseville Area Schools has implemented a new transportation routing system to improve the efficiency of our bus schedules for picking up and dropping off students. While this system is designed to enhance our transportation services, we ask for your patience as we address and resolve any initial issues.
If you need to request a change to a bus stop or if you no longer require transportation services, please email us at transportation@isd623.org or call us at 651-635-1638. Please be prepared to provide the following information:
- Student Name
- Student ID
- Reason for the request (for example, relocation, change in transportation needs)
Please note that we are processing requests as quickly as possible; however, any changes to existing bus stops will not take effect until after the first week of school.
You will receive updates and information about any changes via email, so please ensure that your contact details are current. This includes verifying that your most recent telephone number and email address are on file to ensure you receive all necessary communications promptly.
The safety of our students is our highest priority, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this transition.

Important Changes to School Meal Procedures for Roseville Area Schools Students
Roseville Area Schools will continue to offer free meals for all students during the school day, including healthy breakfasts, lunches, and after-school "super" snacks. To ensure our meal programs remain effective and equitable, we are implementing some changes to our procedures, specifically regarding second meals and additional lunch servings.
Changes to Meal Procedures
Elementary Schools:
- Elementary students will no longer be able to purchase additional items such as entrées or sides. However, milk may still be purchased separately.
- We encourage students to make the most of our meal offerings by eating breakfast, utilizing the share cart, and enjoying the "all-you-care-to-eat" fresh fruit and vegetable options available with their lunch serving.
Secondary Schools:
- Secondary students may purchase additional entrées, sides, or milk if they have money in their meal account.
- To purchase additional items, students must check in at the designated cashier, receive a food tray, return to the serving line for the additional items, and check out at the designated register.
- Students with negative meal balances will not be permitted to purchase additional items.
We encourage all students to take advantage of the free breakfast and lunch offerings, which include unlimited fruits and vegetables and access to the share cart. Secondary students also have the opportunity to enjoy free super snacks at the end of each school day.
Thank you for your understanding as we make these adjustments to better serve our students.
