Letter from the Principal
Dear Loyola Families,
There are so many wonderful aspects of Loyola that are unique. Today I would like to spotlight Marilyn Horner, our amazing Secret Garden Guru and all around wonderful person. She inspires students daily with her love and passion for learning, teaching and being outdoors. She was interviewed recently by Jacque Gorelick for the newsletter Heartmatters on Substack. It is a wonderful article that shows how truly lucky we are here at Loyola, I hope you take a moment to read it.
It's Random Acts of Kindness Week! February 9-15, 2025! This week students and staff have been involved in Random Acts of Kindness. From helping another person pick up their lunch trash, offering to help carry something or just a kind smile, we can all make someone else’s day better and in turn our own by just showing small acts of kindness. Check out this website for more ideas that can last more than just this week. randomactsofkindness.org
Vacation Planning for next year: Please double check the new 2025-2026 school year calendar to ensure your child is not missing school.
Junior Olympics Kick Off: Last Friday, we held our Junior Olympics kick off assembly. Did you know that Junior Olympics training for our 4-6th grade students is just around the corner? If you have never attended or don’t know what Junior Olympics is, it can be described as an “annual, fun-filled, all inclusive, inter-school track meet that celebrates over 60 years of physical education in Los Altos School District. Fourth, fifth, and sixth graders from all seven district elementary schools compete in both traditional and nontraditional track and field events.” You can also read more about it in this article in the Los Altos Town Crier. This year, Junior Olympics will take place on Saturday, April 26th, at Mountain View High School. We hope to see you there helping to cheer on our Loyola Lions! Everyone is welcome to come cheer!
Remember, next week is Winter Break so we will see students again on Monday, Feb 24. I hope everyone has a wonderful week off next week!
Be Kind, Be Strong, Be Well and Make Kindness Normal,
Kelly Rafferty

PTA News
First things first….THANK YOU to everyone who came out on Saturday night to celebrate Loyola at our Annual Auction! We love our Loyola community and you all did not disappoint - there was plenty of mingling, dancing, conversing and raising money for Loyola! And none of this would have been possible without our co-leads - Liz Hwang and Stefanie Shanks - who effortlessly and tirelessly put together a great night for us all!
BUT, THE FUN IS NOT OVER! Our SILENT AUCTION is now live! You can sign up for coveted teacher-hosted parties and family-hosted parties! There are also a lot of great items - summer camps, restaurant gift certificates, local museums, boat tours…the list goes on and on. Many of these items will be sold below market value…so, you could get a great deal! Silent Auction also includes some Loyola favorites, such as front row seats for 6th grade graduation, front row tickets to the Loyola spring musical, a reserved parking spot in the Loyola parking lot and much more! And, even better, all proceeds go directly to the Loyola PTA! It’s a win-win! The silent auction will close on Sunday, February 23rd at 10pm.
Now, turning to our next event—Loyola’s Annual Ice Skating Night! Reserve your tickets for the annual Loyola Ice Skating Night at the Winter Lodge! We will have exclusive use of the entire lodge on Friday, March 7th, 5:30- 7:30pm. Pre-registration for the event is $35 per person, and includes skate rental fees, dinner and snacks. Pre-registration prices will run through February 28th so reserve your family’s spot at this beloved tradition through this link! We have limited tickets and they sell fast - so, don't delay! Admission is free to younger siblings not old enough to attend Loyola yet, plus Loyola staff. Beginning February 29, including at the door, tickets will be $40/person, subject to availability.
Wishing you all a Happy Valentine’s Day weekend!

It’s over halfway through the school year, and there’s much to be thankful for. Together, your student’s classroom teacher and LAEF-funded teachers are working hard to provide an excellent, well-rounded education. LAEF still needs to raise $185K to fully fund our grant to LASD this school year. Help us finish the job! If you have yet to give this year, donate to LAEF today.
