Mrs. Mulvanerty's Update
August 18, 2024
September 8 , 2024
Dear SKS Families,
Boy, you really know how to make a girl feel welcome! It's been a joy celebrating the start of school with you this week! I feel incredibly supported by our teachers & staff, our H&S and BLJ boards, and our parents and students, and I am so excited about all that we will do this year -- TOGETHER!
Speaking of doing things together, our first major fundraiser, the SKS Fall Classic, is coming up in just TWO WEEKS! Consider meeting some new friends by volunteering in support of this special event. All proceeds impact our Annual Fund, every single penny of which supports SKS. We can't operate in the black without this piece of our budget, so thank you in advance for making the Classic a success! There are still opportunities to attend and/or sponsor the event -- more details below! Grandparents welcome!
Parents -- YOUR BIGGEST COMPLAINT this summer was dress code. With that in mind, I've been talking to the students about their cooperation with this, and they know that I am not kidding! A few takeaways:
- Girls may wear post earrings only, no hoops
- Skirts must be an appropriate length - no rolling (we can tell); shorts shouldn't be longer than skirts
- Socks should be crew socks, not ankle or no-show unless it's gym day
In the words of Anne Klein, "Clothes aren't going to change the world; the people who wear them will!" I appreciate your support and cooperation on this!
I saw Bianca Madden in town on Saturday, and she told me that the SKS Field hockey team had an awesome few games at this weekend's tournament even though they only had one practice this week! Camille Evans's dad confirmed that they had two wins, a tie, and one loss after a nail-biting shoot out in the playoff. Way to go, ladies, and GO WILDCATS!
Have you seen the activities and clubs section posted on our website? There are so many great opportunities for after-school fun and academic support. Check them out!

Arrival and Dismissal
Morning Arrival - Set your child up for a successful day!
School opens at 7:45, and all students must be in the building by 8:05. If buses run late (which happens sometimes on the first week of school, students will be excused). Drop off by car is at the front door only. To keep things moving, please do not get out of your car. Faculty will help greet and direct all students. For the sake of all students' safety, PLEASE DO NOT MAKE ANY SHORTCUTS or drop off students at a nearby intersection.
Dismissal
Dismissal begins at 2:45 each day. The order of dismissal is buses, then walkers, after that car line. Please ensure your students know how they are getting home.
Bus Reminders:
- Students need to know what school district and what bus number # they are. For example: my child is Radnor Bus #X or my child is Upper Merion #X.
- If your child is transferring at a local public school, they need to know the transfer bus # too. Your school district should be in contact with you about this important information.
- We ask that all parents help us and their child IN GRADES KG to 3 by putting on your child’s backpack a clear, legible LABEL (A LUGGAGE TAG works best) which says how they are getting home. Many children get panicky and forget at dismissal time. The label helps us help them!
Walker Reminders:
- All walkers will exit in a line with a teacher and will be dismissed from the corner of Aberdeen and Midland.
- Walkers walk! Do not ask your child to be dismissed in walkers and then park in the parish center. This disrupts traffic patterns and limits the parking for people who need those limited spaces, including our coaches and parents who are supervising sports teams after school.
Car Line Reminders:
- Car Line is formed on Midland Ave. headed west from Villanova to Wayne.
- Please do not block the driveways of our neighbors on Midland as they can get understandably frustrated. We need to be good neighbors to the families on Midland Avenue!
- Do not cut the car line by traveling east on Midland or either way on Aberdeen.
- Please have a visible sign that has the name of your family on it posted on the window or dashboard as we call the names for pick up.
