A Message From the Administration
State Testing Incentives!
We are so excited to have state testing coming up!
Our students and teachers have worked so hard during the school year and they deserve to be recognized for the work they have accomplished. Just like a sports team gearing up for a championshipship game, we don't focus on the outcome as a complete representation of who that team is, but if they get the game win, it is one product of showing the hard work they put in all season. This is why our testing season is so important to us! It recognizes the students' and teachers' season of education.
Students, leave everything you have on "the field" this testing season so we can celebrate the growth we see in you every day. As long as you give it all you have, we can continue to analyze "the plays" we need to set in place to help you continue to be great. Just like a sports team winning a championship ring, when they are successful with a win, we have a few incentives for our state testing high flyers.
First Incentive
We recognize not everyone is entering the field with the same level of testing advantage. The first incentive is for students that win competing against themselves and pushing to be better today than they were yesterday. If a student moves up a tier of categories in their testing.... That means, a student that was Does Not Meet last year moves to Approaches, Approaches moves to Meets, or Meets moves to Exceeds...... those students will get to participate in a "Fun in the Sun" Day when we return to school in August. Students can qualify by increasing in either ELA or Math. Current 8th graders will get to participate in this incentive even though they have been promoted to High School. This will be a true day of hanging out with friends, playing on inflatables, playing games, and enjoying the success of a job well done.
Top Incentive
In sports, in jobs, in life, when competitors achieve the highest level of performance there are big rewards. Our top incentive is for students that are achieving the highest level of Exceeds on the State Testing. We are planning a trip to the State Fair for students that meet the Exceeds category in either ELA or Math on this years' state testing. The State Fair is usually in October and if more students qualify than we have seats for, we will pound the pavement for funds to get all that qualify for this trip. This is how confident we are that students need to be rewarded for the hard work they put into their educational growth!
The one thing we know about our AJ students and faculty is they are coming back through COVID losses stronger than ever. We are committed to increasing the academic performance of students to get them through High School graduation, with a diploma, which allows them to be premier contributors to our community and the future dependent on them to improve the world we live in. Students, our testing starts Tuesday and we are cheering on your success to be better than you were yesterday so you can continue to be GREATER every day of your future.

Other Core Classes
Academic and Cognitive Empowerment
ACE Students took on the Zoo! It was such a fun opportunity to review some of the things we have learned about habitats this year!
This week, Mr. Cauthen and Mrs. Jackson combined some recent study on fractions, mixed numbers, and decimals. Students practiced converting between these and also explored how decimals and monetary notation are connected.
Mrs. Bowers began her lessons on the presidents of the United States of America. Students have learned about some of the most famous presidents, and the reasons why they are so well known. Students will also begin a research project where they will research a specific president and then present them to the class.
Ms. Hoyer and Ms. Robertson's classes took the easyCBM Spring Benchmark assessments this week. Ms. Hoyer was at AJMS this week to visit, so students had some treats from Western
New York. She made Chicken Riggies, and brought fresh cheese curd and a Loganberry drink to share. Next week, students will respond to a Spring Writing Prompt and work through multi-step word problems.
In class with Ms. Cunningham and Ms. Estridge, we have been working diligently on our CBM benchmark assessments for the spring!
Mrs. Collins and Mrs. Faulkenberry’s classes are completing Spring benchmarks this week.
