Please enjoy this recap from Coach Sinco:
Friday traffic was horrible. Those that came down on Friday night to attend the team dinner and stay overnight in Macon endured the parking lot that is also known as I-75 South. Seems like traffic of the returning Floridians in the aftermath of Milton doubled the expected 2 hour trip. It didn’t matter when you left, it was all the same…
Going into Saturday morning, we knew that we had a chance. You can look at the entries into the meet and see who the other teams are bringing. You can then see approximately how your team is going to do. Before the meet, our teams were expected to finish this way: JV Boys first, both Varsity teams second, and JV Girls third. However, all of the races were competitive. Additionally, our runners in the races looked like we could contend for each of the individual wins. Our JV boys looked like they would get the winner (although we didn’t know how that would be), JV girls looked possible but needed a good run by a top runner…same with varsity girls. The biggest uphill climb would be the varsity boys, who Michael trailed two runners by a good deal. So…we knew we had a chance to contend in each race, but as I have also mentioned, the fact that we were in this position was a testament to the hard work of our runners, because running the same calculations back in August would have resulted in only on race looking truly competitive…JV Boys. They have worked extremely hard and have been very consistent to get to this place. Now, it is time to run.
JV Boys led off on this beautiful morning. The weather was great and we had 19 boys in the field. We had a plan that we would lay back at the start in the smaller field. No need to burn yourself out in the first quarter of the race. So, when the boys hit the 400 mark and there was not a single one of our runners in the top 5, one may have been concerned, but then you saw Caleb steadily picking off runners. By the time we hit the quarter mark, Caleb had taken the lead, with several of our runners in hot pursuit. At the half way point, Caleb extending his lead, but now it was evident how this race would go. Our gold uniforms dotted the top 20 places like leaves dot the road in late October. In the end, Caleb would win, Rihaan 3rd, Lucas 4th, Brady 6, Nico 7th, Rafa 8th, and Jack 9th as we easily won as a team. We had 16 of the Top 25 and our domination of the JV boys race continued (our 5th consecutive JV Boys win).
Next up were the JV Girls and we were nowhere as deep. Additionally, out of the 7 girls running in the race, only two had run at State before. As expected, we were not dominant in the first 400, but with the smaller field and a wide course, that didn’t matter too much. By the time we got to the 800 meter mark, Emily had appeared in third running down two leaders. Right before the half mile mark, Emily was a co-leader with a girl from Beacon Hill, with Rena and Gabi just a little ways back. More importantly, Elanie, who had the 19th best time in the field, decided this was her day and was running right behind Gabi in about tenth. With 600 to go, Emily had taken a 5 second lead and was determined climbing the final hill. Elanie had caught her teammate and was running with them in the top 7. Gina and her sister Anna (who had overcome some difficulty) were running right around 25th. In the end, no one would challenge Emily who would win by 12 seconds. In a battle of our team for 4th, Rena would win, Elanie 5th, and Gabi 6th. Gina would seal our win with her finish in the Top 25. This would be the 6th time in 7 years that we had won this race.
The Varsity Boys was also a very interesting race. We had faced favorite Creekland three times this year and lost all three times, so we knew going in that this was going to be a tough contest. We also knew that Creekland was missing their 5th and 6th best runners, which would open a door for us. So, we had some confidence on the line that a win was very much possible. The boys were locked in. Michael helped form the main chase pack to the two leaders who went flying out at the start, while our boys fought hard to stay near the front of the race. In particular, Drew really took initiative early in the race to be well position while Matteo and Cole paced behind him. Right behind those two, Dominic and Levi really pushed themselves to be up top. Heading to the final hill, the race essentially played out as it would finish. Michael would finish 4th, while Matteo out gunned his competitor at the finish for 10th. Cole stayed away from 3 to finish in 12th, while Drew faded a bit, but still landed in the Top 20 with his finish at 18th. Levi assured his medal with his 25th and the boys would end up winning easily neither Richmond Hill nor Creekland could find the answers to counter. Our third boys varsity State Championship.
The final race was also going to be epic. From the gun, we had the game plan to be patient, but make sure we were well positioned. Each girl knew what their role was, with Megan leading the train of Jr. Cougars through the race. Megan wanted to win, but also understood that she would have to be patient as well. There were other capable runners, some that might be unknown, so she needed to let the race start to play out. After the first 400, we saw a few of the non-competitive runners sprinting and taking the lead, so for Megan, it was about picking out her rivals and marking them. For the rest of the team, it was about getting into good position and supporting their teammates through their running. At the 800, Megan had picked up her two biggest competitors and was running with them, with Caroline right behind. Alexis, who looked a little worried at the beginning, was finding her stride. Mia, Ruby and Harper all running well behind Alexis. Everyone was doing their job. At the mile mark, Megan only had one runner remaining with her and Caroline had moved into third. Alexis was right about 10th keeping Caroline in sight, while the trio were all running with teammate just ahead. Delilah had recovered and was moving up in the field. At the hill, Megan would drop her last competitor and steam roll to a 12 second win. Caroline would maintain her spot and finish in 3rd. Alexis would move up and beat her competition on the line for 8th. Harper, with the biggest run of the afternoon would set a PR while finishing in 10th, Mia three behind her in 13th, while Ruby would outsprint her foes for 18th. In each of these situation, every girl outsprinted other girls on the line to maximize the points for the team. These valuable points continued to add up with the girls easily winning, doubling up Beacon Hill, 30-61 and winning their second consecutive varsity girls state championship.
In the end, all of the runners were on their A game. They each did what was necessary to fulfill their end of the bargain to bring home the sixth grand championship in a row. Simply put, it was the best day of running I have ever witnessed in my coaching career. They brought great pride to their coaches, families and themselves. Well done, Jr. Cougars, well done.

October is Bullying Prevention Month (Click Images for info)
6th and 7th Grade Families
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Our school cares about the safety and well-being of our students, and we want to make sure
Taylor Road Middle School is a good place for students to learn. We are going to be presenting a Bullying Prevention Presentation to our students. Our goal is to reduce and prevent bullying
problems. This presentation is for all students, not just those who are being bullied or who are
bullying others. Parents and guardians play a key role in this presentation. Student will be asked share with an adult at school and at home if he or she is bullied or sees bullying happening at school. It is very important that we all take any bullying seriously and inform our school staff. Bullying should not be seen as “kids being kids” or something that students just need to deal with. Having a safe school experience is something all students should be able to enjoy.
If you have any questions about the presentation, please reach out to your child’s grade
level counselor.
Sincerely,
TRMS Counseling Department
