Principal's Blog #29

Message from Dr.Taylor
It's almost time to return from spring break, Mustangs! Many people often want to know what spring break looks like in the Principal's office! Here is a sneak peak!
Although spring break is usually filled with fall planning, this week, Ms. Lendino, my administrative assistant, took a moment to coordinate a wonderful SPRING brunch for all of our administrative assistants! As they toast to orange juice and lemonade, I can't help but share this image of the wonderful team that devote such attention and care behind-the-scenes here at MHS!
Together, they and I are all here to make this last quarter count! There are just 8 weeks to go until school is over. It’s easy to get distracted as the finish line approaches, but staying focused and motivated can make all the difference. Setting small goals and celebrating each step of progress can help keep the momentum going.
Let's continue to set goals, stay motivated, remain focused, be kind, celebrate success, and end the year with pride.
TOGETHER, WE CAN ALL FINISH STRONG!
GOOOOO MUSTANGS!!

🚩 Illinois 5Essentials Survey - TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO RESPOND!
MHS families, please check your inbox for an email from School District 120 which will include a link to the Illinois 5Essentials Survey.
D120 is participating with the Illinois State Board of Education in the 2025 statewide survey of school climate and learning conditions through Friday, March 28.
The 5Essentials Survey provides a unique opportunity for students, teachers and parents to have a voice in their schools. This is your chance to provide input concerning your child’s education. We will take all of your input seriously and use it to continually review and update our current educational practices.
The survey is administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago and provides a comprehensive picture of a school’s organizational culture in an individualized report measuring the five essentials critical for school success:
Effective leaders
Collaborative teachers
Involved families
Supportive education
Ambitious instruction
Survey results will be sent to District 120 and will be included in the Illinois State School Report Card next fall.
Results will never be connected to your child. No individual will be identified in the school reports and teachers and administrators will not see individual responses.

Stress is something we all face, but how we experience it can vary greatly. While there's no one-size-fits-all definition, it's most often described as a state of physical, mental, or emotional strain or tension.

Medical Professionals Inspire Students During Panel & Luncheon
On Thursday, March 13th, Mundelein High School hosted six medical professionals for the Careers in Medicine panel during 4th & 6th periods. Over sixty students attended this event, which included a meet-and-greet luncheon for students in Mr. Hitzler’s Medical Club and Q&A sessions with our guests.
Mundelein High School was honored to welcome Klaudia Areola, Assistant Clinical Manager of the Clinical Resource Unit at Advocate Condell Medical Center, Claudine Bryan, Registered Nurse at Condell, Dr. Chhaya Chandel, pediatrician at Anchor Pediatrics, Dr. Ryan Chellin, ER doctor at Vista Medical Center, Dr. Conor Schaye, ER Doctor at Condell and regional director of Vituity, and Lukas Vla, Registered Nurse at the Condell emergency room.
Students Maisy Price, Danielle Sawe, and Ailani Zires moderated the event and facilitated questions from the audience. While the stories and testimonies that were shared during the panel were inspirational and insightful, the best part was watching our students crowd around our guests at the end of each session to greet them personally and exchange contact information. Once again, the futures of our students were shaped through the involvement of our community partners!
As a sidenote, the event had a bit of extra Mustang spirit--Klaudia Areola is a 2009 graduate of Mundelein High School and Claudine Bryan and Dr. Ryan Chellin are both parents of current students!
Mustangs Attend Interactive Experiential Field Trip to Evanston Hospital Simulation Lab
On Tuesday, March 18th, 26 students attended a day-long interactive and immersive experiential field trip to the Grainger Center for Simulation and Innovation at Evanston Hospital, sponsored by Endeavor Health.
These future doctors, nurses, surgeons, and medical assistance received training on Airway and Respiratory support, Trauma Survey, Fundamentals of Laparascopic Surgery, and Cardiac Monitoring. At the end of the experience, all students were brought together for a “mega-code”, where they applied the skills they learned earlier in the day to provide emergency care to a “patient” experience a medical emergency.
Mundelein High School would like to thank Joan Casey, Simbulance Specialist at Endeavor Health for organizing this event, and staff members Alyssa Wiltjer and Jed Doyle for joining us as chaperones!

Some spectacular performances last Saturday at the indoor NSC Championships.
At the Varsity level, Ian Murray led the way with 2 individual wins in the sprints. First Ian won the 60m with the best start he has ever had, running 7.21. Ian then came back to win the 200m, completing the sprint double. Ian's time of 23.59 was also his 2nd PR on the day. A really great effort!
Our distance runners provided most of the other highlights on the day. Elijah Mendoza won the 3200 with a PR of 9:42.0. Alberto Diaz contributed a 5th place finish in his first race at this distance this year. Elijah double backed to take 5th in the 1600m with another PR, 4:38.31. Andrew Weaver took 6th in the 800m, but only after contributing to the 4 x 800m relay, the Highlight of the Day! The foursome of Andrew, freshman Erick Cordova, Nathan McCreight, and Izic Miller ran 8:09.50 for the win. Not only is that one of the fastest times in the State but is the fastest time we have ever run this early in the season. Wow!
At the F/S level, the 4 x 800m relay also won, which was the biggest surprise of the day. Advik Sharma, Mason McMurray, Adrian Pacheco Reyes, and Jake Williams ran 9:37.9, with several of them running PR's in the process. Advik came back to take 3rd in the 800m, while Mason came back to take 3rd in the 1600m, running 5:07.15, a huge PR. Aidan Sweet won the 3200m by 20 seconds, running 10:31.4.
Nathen Hamrick took 3rd in the 200m, while Henry Molozaiy and Brandon Newell took 3rd and 4th in the 400m. Henry also took 4th in the 60HH, and 3rd in the 60LH. Cesar Hernandez took 5th in both hurdles events. Nathen came back to take 4th in the HJ and 5th in the LJ, and the quartet of Jared Alba, Riley Murphy, Brandon Newell and Aidan Sweet closed the meet by taking 2nd in the 4 x 400 relay.
Some strong performances as we get close to the end of the indoor season. Next week we are at Carthage College on Friday, another great meet on a fast track. We already have a few athletes who have a chance to qualify for the IPPT Meet at Illinois Wesleyan the following week. We'll see if we can get some more.
