Dear Families,
It is with heavy hearts that we reach out to you today following the tragic incident that occurred at our middle school yesterday. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to all of you and your family impacted by this devastating event.
In times like these, it is imperative that we rally together to support each other, our community, and our students. Although yesterday was unimaginable, there were so many signs of hope. Staff members assured everyone was safe and comforted. Other community members jumped in to help while our law enforcement and first responders took quick action. Our students did exactly what we had prepared them to do through our critical incident response training. We are incredibly proud of each student's bravery, courage, and patience.
We understand that students and families may be apprehensive about coming back to the building. Please join us in beginning to reassure students of their safety within our building. The plans we have in place worked and will continue to keep us safe. Part of our healing process will come with being back together in the building.
Our school staff, student service team, and outside support will be available to provide assistance and comfort to any students or families who may need it when we return.
We encourage students to focus on the facts about the incident and avoid getting caught up in the rumors or other misinformation they may be hearing. We understand that many things are circulating on social media that may or may not be accurate. We encourage you to monitor your child’s social media and internet access closely, as our goal is to minimize any further harm. Additionally, some students may look to place blame or even feel guilt. Thank you for listening and acknowledging their feelings, while also helping them understand that placing blame will only cause more harm.
In the coming days and weeks, we will continue to provide updates and support as we navigate through this tragedy together. In times of adversity, the strength of our community provides hope for brighter days ahead, and we are grateful for the outpouring of love and support that has been shown thus far.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions, concerns, or if there is anything we can do to support you and your family during this time.
With heartfelt condolences,
Paul Christiansen, Principal
