Hopewell's Happenings
COMMUNICATION FOR THE HES COMMUNITY
June 2024
THANK YOU
We're wrapping up the school year at HES, and there's so much fun ahead! Get ready for end-of-year celebrations and our 5th-grade graduation and events. This past month has been packed with thrilling activities and unforgettable moments!
We started off the month with a wonderful Teacher Appreciation Week. HES PTO provided an delicious luncheon for our staff. Gift cards and daily affirmations from students and families were handed out all week (flowers, notes and candy) and appreciated by all! Thank you for making our teachers and staff feel special!
Our May Day celebration, led by Ms. Mills, was a fantastic event with great participation from both students and families.
Our school counselor, Ms. LaRose, along with our SEL Committee implemented HopeWellness SEL Day. It was great to see so many classes taking advantage of all that was offered, from the Hammock Garden, side walk chalk, Buddy and Yale visits and classroom activities.
The second week of May we had a 4th & 5th Grade field trip to the Princeton Symphony (thanks to Ms. Mills and Ms. Dauer), a mesmerizing Laser Light Show assembly (compliments of our PTO and HVEF), and an engaging Architecture Workshop (thanks to our MaST Teacher Leaders, Ms. Muzychko and Ms. Colella, and funding from HVEF).
Our second Walk, Bike, and Roll to School event on May 9th proved to be a hit once again, with special thanks to parents, staff and our local police and fire departments for leading different routes and ensuring a safe journey to school for all. We are looking forward to more events in the future.
May also saw us celebrating Kindergarten Donuts with Grownups, made possible by the hard work and meticulous planning of Ms. Needham, Ms. McConkey, and Ms. Mickley.
Third grade (Ms. Buechner, Ms. Carosi, Ms. Devereaux, Ms. Hamilton & Ms. Macinsky) hosted an amazing Poetry Assembly and Mini Measurement Day for our 3rd graders. A special thank you to Luray Gross for all of her work this year educating our 3rd graders with Poetry.
Our 2nd Grade Team (Ms. Cohen, Mr. DeLorenzo, Ms. DeFrank & Ms. Higgins) hosted the Whole School Meeting this month, teaching us about Sportsmanship ahead of Field Day.
This year's Field Day was a huge success! Great weather and lots of fun and competition! Thank you to Ms. Kirk-Papp for all her hard work and to our former students and CHS seniors who volunteered to assist throughout the day.
At the end of May, our 2nd graders presented their Habitat Hoopla projects, providing a wealth of information. Thanks again to our 2nd Grade Team for making it an entertaining event for parents and students.
The 5th Grade capped off the month with an exciting trip to the Liberty Science Center, where they had fun while learning together.
Our Kindergarten students enjoyed a beautiful day for Farm Day. Thank you to Ms. Domboski, Ms. McConkey, Ms. Mickley, Ms. Needham, and Ms. Rodriguez for organizing this wonderful event.
Finally our Spring Concert was held Monday night at HVCHS. Thank you to Ms. Dauer, Ms. Lemaire, and Ms. Mills for an amazing year and the success of our students in ORFF Ensemble, Band and Choir.
We look forward to ending our school year by celebrating our graduating 5th graders and then taking a well-deserved summer break.

Nature Harmony Project Update
As the school year comes to a close, we wanted to share an update regarding the HES Pavilion Project.
While we have received preliminary approval from the Borough, a structural engineer is needed to provide detailed drawings for the pavilion. These will be utilized for final approval from the Borough as well as the securement of bids to construct the project.
With this in mind, we hope to connect with a structural engineer who can propel our project to the next level. Should you know of anyone who is interested in providing engineering support, kindly direct them to Mike DeLorenzo via email at michaeldelorenzo@hvrsd.org.
We hope to secure a structural engineer to design the pavilion and subsequent foundation over the summer so that we can move forward with the project in the fall.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we work to enhance our outdoor learning spaces at HES!
Counselor Corner
Thank you for supporting your child(ren)’s social and emotional learning at home throughout the year! We enjoyed so many opportunities to celebrate good character in the classroom and throughout the school this year.
From Hopewell Hooray recognition and Whole School Meetings to SEL days and our monthly Character Strong trait focus, every student at HES has fostered their character development this year #TheHopewellWay. We are closing out the year as we began with a focus on Kindness. Check out this kindness checklist to spread kindness throughout our community as a family and complement our school-wide practice.
Be kind, Hopewell! As always, please reach out if you need any assistance via phone at 609-737-4007 x7206 or email at ashleylarose@hvrsd.org. Have a wonderful summer!
Summer EBT - Eligibilty
Summer EBT is a new federal program to help families buy food for their school-aged children during the summer. Families will receive $120 for each eligible child to buy groceries during the summer. Children who receive Summer EBT benefits can still participate in other summer meal programs. Receiving benefits will not affect children or families’ immigration status.
