R.J.Richey Arrival & Dismissal Procedures, Routines, and Parent Reminders:
Morning Arrival Routines
- RJR doors open at 7:15am each morning. Students should not be dropped of earlier than 7:15 a.m. due to lack of supervision & for safety reasons. Please do NOT have your child out of a car until RJ staff members are visible and doors are open for students.
- Parents, please utilize the front drive for drop-off and stay in your car! The teachers on duty will assist with the unloading of your student.
- Our front drive operates like a well-oiled machine and moves quickly after our first few days of school. Please pay attention to our staff that are available and helpful to keep our lines moving.
- There are NO student walk-ups allowed for arrival in the morning. Students dropped off should only occur in the car rider line and not by parking or in the parking lot.
- Should you need to park to walk your child into the campus, our front office opens at 7:25. Please park in a parking spot and walk with your child to the front office. *please walk your student up to the campus rather than sending him/her to walk alone.* Our cars are constantly moving and are focused on drop-off areas and are not always paying attention to any crossing traffic.
- The back and side doors on campus are for bus riders only. The front doors are for car riders.
- The back parking lot is for staff only and bus transportation. This is NOT a drop-off area for students or for parents wanting to avoid the car-rider line.
- Students who would like to eat breakfast should report directly to the cafeteria each morning. (It is important to remind your student of this morning procedure.) As students finish their breakfast, they will join their class in our gym holding area or be dismissed to their classrooms at 7:30a.m.
- Students who have already eaten breakfast prior to arriving at school will report directly to our gym each morning if arriving between 7:15-7:30 or to classrooms beginning at 7:30 a.m.
- School begins with the first bell at 7:45.
- Students planning to eat breakfast at school should arrive no later than 7:30am.
- Visitors are not able to join our students for breakfast due to supply and space and campus safety & security.
- Students arriving between 7:15-7:30a.m. will have the option to go to the cafeteria for breakfast or to our gym to wait in their classroom lines. Students are dismissed at the 7:30 bell and walked to their classrooms/hallways by staff members and greeted by their teachers at their classroom doors.
- Parents / visitors are not able to walk students to classes in the morning or meet with the teacher once students enter the classroom unless previously scheduled and approved.
Car Rider Traffic Lanes:
- The far-right lane should be full BEFORE any car utilizes our second lane in the car rider line. Please do not pass all cars by utilizing the 2nd car lane or center lane to avoid the line. Doing so only causes a build-up in morning traffic and the need to merge into one line, resulting in drivers cutting off others that are following procedures. Should you need to utilize the 2nd/middle lane to pull into the car-line, please allow the right lane of traffic to merge first into the car line.
- There is ONE lane for drop off. Please stay in the one lane of traffic through the front drive and do NOT go around other cars. This only causes a bottle-neck in exiting the drive and double lanes of traffic will not be permitted once cars merge off of the highway. Cars pulling out and/or around others will be stopped at the cross walk for the far right lane to clear first.
- ***Please see the attached visual for the drop-off line***
Dismissal Car Line Procedures at RJR:
Form one, single-file line when turning into the car line. Once off of highway, you may merge to either the far right or middle car lanes. Vehicles will "double stack" into the two far right lanes, waiting to pick up so that traffic is off of the highway. All cars from the 2 lanes will merge at our Car Rider Pro reader and will be directed by staff.
- All traffic will merge into one, single lane near the front of the building for pickup and drop-off.
- Please do not block or park in the inner circle lane, as this is for emergency entrance/exit and for accessing parking.
- Hang your car tag on the rearview mirror with the numbers facing out so personnel can read it.
- Stay in your car. The teachers on duty will assist with the loading of your student.
- Watch for the person directing traffic. The person directing traffic will send cars from each lane and will alternate between lanes.
- Stay in your car and in the car line. Even if you forgot your car tag, stay in line and we will come to you to check your ID or have you pull into a designated parking space.
- If your child has loaded the car, please stay in the car line and wait for the wave of cars to pull forward rather than pulling around them.
Pickup Stations: Students will exit through 1 set of doors and arrive at designated stations and poles in our front drive, supervised by an RJR staff member. Please be patient as the lines will likely be long as we work out dismissal procedures within the first few days of school.
Safety first! Please do not allow your child to hang outside of the car windows or sunroof while traveling through the car line.
No parent walk-ups at dismissal. If your child is a car-rider, we can not and will not be able to accommodate parent pickup other than through our car rider line. Please do not walk-up to the car line to request pickup for your student.
***No in-person pick-up after 3:00pm until the car line is finished. As we work to dismiss our students in a timely and orderly fashion, we must keep the front entry/exit doors uncrowded and office staff available to assist with student dismissal.
- As a result, parents needing to check their students out must do so before 3:00pm or after the car line is finished. This is a matter of safety as we work to dismiss a school full of elementary children.
Please find visuals and car-rider line maps below for details:
Car-Rider Tags & Car-Rider Pro Details:
Dismissal Car-Rider Pickup Process: Car-Rider Pro
*Please keep your Car-Rider Tags from last year! These will work this year!
*If you need new or additional Car-Rider Pro tags, we will have a station at Meet the Teacher Night to help and assist you with car tags.
BCISD utilizes enhanced technology to make pick-up more secure and efficient. Please see the list of Frequently Asked Questions below, and contact your campus office with any additional questions.
How does the system work?
Each car tag is associated with a student (not a car) in the CarRiderPro software. When the tag is recognized as the parent approaches the reader in the pickup line, a notification flashes to an inside monitor where students are waiting.
To ensure the number is read, parents must have the tag hanging from the rear-view mirror before entering the pickup line in order for the reader to recognize the number.
How reliable are the tags?
- The system is designed and engineered to work in all weather situations and has been tested by multiple districts in the past with no reports of weather-related malfunction. Should internet connections be lost, the system can run on mobile data plans. In the event that the system is temporarily out of order, campuses can use hard copies of the registration and the physical numbers on tags to release students appropriately.
What does this mean for carpooling and ride-sharing?
- When parents register their student in CarRiderPro, a space is available to add multiple names for ride-sharing. Parents can even specify the day of the week. For irregular schedules, parents can allow a ride-share driver to use their tag temporarily. They may also purchase additional tags for car-pool use.
- Parents driving a carpool should hang all the students’ tags from the rearview mirror so that notifications for each child will be displayed inside. The system is sensitive enough to read multiple tags hanging in one location.
How can I pick up without a tag?
- Just as in prior years with paper tags, authorized adults or parents can pick up without a tag by parking and going inside the school office to sign their student out with a valid ID. Additional tags can be purchased for $5.00.
What if I lose my tag?
- In the event that a tag is lost, parents should contact the school office to have that tag number disabled and a new tag number issued. Replacement tags are available for $5.00.
I have multiple children at multiple campuses. Will I need a tag for each?
- Each tag can be linked with multiple student profiles across multiple campuses. Parents do not need separate tag accounts for each child.
How will grandparents or other occasional pickups be handled?
- As always, authorized adults who are listed in the student’s file for pick-up may park and go into the school office to pick up if they do not have a tag.
