STEM Spelling Bee
Resources and Information
Dear Parents,
Each year 11 million students compete in Spelling Bee’s at the school level, learning important new words along the way. The grade level Spelling Bees will be in mid-January. The winners of the grade level spelling bees will compete in the STEM Spelling Bee. STEM is holding a school wide Spelling Bee on Friday, January 27 at 8:30. Students in 1st- 8th grade may compete. Kinder students will compete in their class and grade level spelling bees. The winner of each school bee will compete in the ECISD Spelling Bee held on Saturday, Feb. 11th. The winner of the ECISD Regional Spelling Bee will have the opportunity for an all expense paid trip to compete in the SCRIPPS National Spelling Bee held in Washington D.C.
Included in this Smore, are word lists to study and optional books lists to read.
I recommend starting with students current grade list and once that list is mastered, moving to the next grade list.
Check back to this smore monthly as I will be adding resources and information as we go along.
Let's have a STEM student go to Washington D.C. this year!!!!!!!
Why is the Spelling Bee important?
By inspiring the exploration of words, the Scripps National Spelling Bee illuminates pathways to lifelong curiosity, celebrates academic achievement, and enriches communities.
fall under the spell of the Bee and magic of stories
Each year, the Bee publishes the School Spelling Bee Study List, a list of 450 words to help students prepare for school spelling bees. These words come from a list of books carefully selected by the Bee for their engaging and age-appropriate content as well as their rich vocabulary. We call these books the Great Words, Great Works list.
This year's list shows grade level and reading level
The 27 books on the 2023 Great Words, Great Works book list are separated both by grade level and the Bee's three reading levels. The list includes contemporary fiction, classics and nonfiction titles.
