Parking Lot Reminders
MacArthur Families,
Thank you to everyone who has helped do your part regarding our parking lot changes. With 2 weeks into the changes, here are a couple of things to focus on as we continue to seek a safe arrival and dismissal for our students.
- Although speed limits are not posted, please keep your speeds within a safe number as you travel through the lot.
- Pre-K parking is now ONE WAY. You will enter one way and exit towards the school.
- Although previously requested, I continue to ask that any child who is NOT in Pre-K and being brought to school in a car, be dropped off using the car rider line. I assure you that the process is smooth.
- The lower (eastern most) portion of the parking will continue to be reserved for our Pre-K families, as well as a few other students who have special needs. Our Pre-K families must adhere to hand-to-hand drop off procedures which is why I ask for those spaces to be reserved.
A Message from Principal Johnson
Greetings!
February is here and sadly that darn Ground Hog saw his shadow. If only every winter day could be 65 degrees, right?
This month starts off with celebrating National School Counselor's Week, the Kansas City Chiefs, and Random Acts of Kindness! As we continue to seek mastery, acceptance, and confidence as a focus, we will not let these special days and weeks get in the way of learning. The staff at MacArthur is focused and purposeful in their instructional each and every day!
Picture Day is Wednesday (crazy socks won't be seen in the pictures) so plan ahead and consider joining for our next Site Council meeting on this same day, as well! Those meetings are held at 9:00am in the MacArthur Cafeteria. Hope to see some new faces!
Happy February!
Mrs. Johnson

Volunteering at MAC
MacArthur Parent Volunteers - Volunteering at Fort Leavenworth offers a great opportunity to gain valuable experience and skills that can be applied to future job opportunities. It also provides a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction from helping others. The installation recognizes the importance of volunteer work and celebrates the contributions of its volunteers. All service members, family members, and Department of the Army civilians volunteering on Fort Leavenworth can use the VMIS (Volunteer Management Information System) system to track hours.
USD 207 School Volunteer positions are included in VMIS. Attached is a one-page guide for those interested! For eligibility and system use questions, please contact Fort Leavenworth ACS at 913-684-2800.
Not a Mac Volunteer yet?! Visit our 'Get Involved' section on the website for details.
We appreciate you!!

HEARTS APART AT USD207
Fort Leavenworth Unified School District 207 offers a wonderful program we refer to as "Hearts Apart." Hearts Apart is designed to help students cope with the deployment of a parent. Your permission is required for your child and your family to participate.
Hearts Apart provides students and families with a sense of community and belonging district wide. This is a great opportunity for spouses and their children to enjoy good food, relax, and enjoy the conversation and company of others. These events help children and their families understand that they are not alone in their experiences.
Sign up for Hearts Apart - Here
Our February event will be at the Dome Theatre at Bradley Elementary on Thursday, February 20th at 3:45pm. Please RSVP to your School Counselor by Friday 2/14/2025 through email: knjoku@usd207.org.
If you have any questions regarding Hearts Apart, please reach out to Kayla Njoku, MacArthur School Counselor at knjoku@usd207.org or by calling MacArthur Elementary at 913-651-6517.
WHOLE GROUP COUNSELING LESSONS WITH MRS. NJOKU
K-2 classes receive weekly 15 minute lessons with Mrs. Njoku. The focus is the Little Spot of Feelings by Diane Alber. If you're curious about this, here is a Parent Guide that will provide an overview of what we are learning.
3rd-5th classes receive a monthly 30 minute lesson with Mrs. Njoku. Our focus through September and October was Growing Friendships and Learning about bullying and peer pressure. In November, we focused on Growth Mindset and the Power of Yet. In December, we learned about Empathy. In January we focused on goal setting. In February, we will be learning about the importance of honesty and integrity.
