A message from Career Academy Principal, Mr. Eric Kilburn
Welcome to September! My name is Eric Kilburn and it is my pleasure to introduce myself as the new Principal of the Sioux City Career Academy. This work and position have been a dream of mine since the Career Academy’s inception five years ago.
I have been an educator with the Sioux City Community School District my entire career of over sixteen years, starting as a high school Spanish teacher, middle school generalist, coach, and then as an administrator at West High and most recently at Unity Elementary School. I am a product of this school district attending Joy Elementary (Apartments), East Middle, and graduating from East High. Every place I have been I have loved because I love working for this community. I believe one of my best assets is my ability to connect with parents, families, and of course, students. As we continue to dream about what the Career Academy can do for our children and this community, I want you to be a part of shaping that vision. If there is ever anything I can do for you or your family I am just a phone call or email away.
It has been such an honor and blessing to serve this school district and community. Together we can make Sioux City and the surrounding community better than we found it. I look forward to working with you all for years to come!
A message from Career Academy School Counselor, Mr. Jeff Lucas
FAFSA Kick Off: The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) typically opens October 1st. All seniors are encouraged to submit a FAFSA sometime after October 1st. This year there could be a delay in the FAFSA being ready. If you are not able to submit your FAFSA in October check the web site periodically this fall. The FAFSA allows students to qualify for grants, loans, and work study to assist with the cost of attending college. For more information and to create a FAFSA account go to https://studentaid.gov/
College Applications: September and October are busy months for submitting applications to colleges/universities of interest. Some schools have early application deadlines. Make sure you are aware of any schools you are considering with early application deadlines. If you are applying to a school that uses the Common App you can now access the Common App thru your Navigator account. If you have questions, see your home high school counselor or Mr. Lucas at the Career Academy
Transcript Requests: Seniors, part of the application process for being admitted to college is submitting an official transcript from your home high school along with your online application. Official transcript requests can be done thru your Navigator account. From your Navigator homepage click the MY TRANSCRIPT REQUESTS tab at the bottom left-hand corner.
Scholarships: Students thru their Canvas account can access monthly scholarship lists. Students will find the monthly lists within their Homeroom/Advisory course in their Canvas account. Scholarship lists will be updated shortly. Be sure to check monthly. Each high school has its own monthly list.
