It's a Good Day in PreK
Congratulations graduates!
The School Year is Almost Over...
It's almost summer vacation! In a few short weeks your child will be graduating from Pre-K. This is a huge accomplishment for your child! This means they are only three months away from starting kindergarten. Be proud and let them know it. They have persevered, established friendships, and worked hard to learn new skills that will prepare them for kindergarten. I'd like to take this time to thank the teachers and teaching assistants who were integral in your child's successes this year. Lastly, thank you! We all appreciate your support with our Pre-K community and your children. Have a great summer!
B is for Birds
Science Everywhere is an early learning initiative, emphasizing the importance of Inquiry-Based Learning. Spearheaded by the New York State Education Department's Office of Early Learning and Office of Cultural Education, the initiative seeks to foster a love for science and nature in young children through hands-on learning experiences. Two of our teachers, Erika Ferretti at Catskill and Brianna Stauder at Green Meadow, had their classes participate.
Below students at Green Meadow are using a "bird" feather to read about birds.
Above are just a few activities our students in Mrs. Ferretti's class participated in!
C is for Chrysalis
Students at Berlin grew grass and observed caterpillars in chrysalis state. It is exciting for kids to observe and witness the life cycle first hand- egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, butterfly. It makes abstract science concepts concrete and exciting!
R is for Rainforest
Students at Donald P Sutherland learned about the rainforest, the animals that live in it, and the foods that grow in it. The children tasted three fruits from the rainforest and then they graphed their favorite and talked about which one they liked the most and least. They were all so brave to try new foods!
W is for Wishes
Our little wishers in Berlin were making wishes for kindergarten. Itβs good for Pre-K students to make wishes because it nurtures essential aspects of early childhood development in both emotional and cognitive domains. It also encourages creativity and imagination. I have to say I have been wishing a lot lately for more sun. Fingers crossed! π
