Principal's Message
Dear Families,
We’re off to a strong start with IAR testing this week! Our third and fourth graders completed their first math assessments today. To help them continue to do their best throughout the week, please ensure they’re getting plenty of rest and enjoying a healthy breakfast each morning.
Today, I had the pleasure of being joined by a guest assistant principal who helped with several of my daily responsibilities. Together, we visited classrooms during our morning walkthroughs, listened to third graders rehearse for the upcoming Spring Sing concert, and observed an orchestra lesson. We also joined the third grade team meeting, where we approved an exciting upcoming field trip!
After a quick break for recess, my assistant restocked the staff beverage fridge and joined a fourth grade team meeting, where teachers reviewed next year’s student supply list. Check out the photos below of her in action—we’re so grateful for her leadership and enthusiasm this morning!
Lastly, please take a moment to review the announcements below, which include:
-
Information about class placement parent feedback
-
A call for school board applicants from School Board President Dan Waters
-
An invitation to our upcoming Parent Coffee Talk
Thank you for your continued support!
Warmly,
Lindsay

New Information
The Winnetka Public Schools Call For School Board Applications
Due to a resignation announced at our March 2025 School Board meeting, we currently have an open seat on the Board that is to be seated this month to fulfill the final two years of that term. Per Board policy 2:70, the remaining term was less than 868 days, and the resignation was less than 88 days until the next election (April 1, 2025); therefore, the Board shall appoint a person to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the open term.
The Board will be accepting applications from community members seeking to fill the open role through April 10th at 5 p.m. Qualifications to seek a Board seat are noted in Board Policy 2:40. The application can be found here.
After the application window closes, the Board will select candidates to interview in a closed session on either April 17th from 6:00-8:30 p.m. or April 18th from 8:00-10:30 a.m. Selected candidates may choose to meet with the Board in person or via Zoom.
The Board will discuss the final candidates and select a new Board member in time to be sworn in at the organizational meeting of the Board on April 22, 2025.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Board President, Dan Waters at danwaters@winnetka36.org.
Class Placement Feedback
As we begin planning for the upcoming school year, our team is already hard at work with hiring and scheduling. Another important part of our preparation is the development of classroom rosters.
As in past years, we welcome and value parent input as part of this process. Families of students entering grades 1–4 are invited to complete the Parent Input Survey by Friday, April 25. This is an opportunity to share any insights that might help us better understand your child’s needs—such as academic strengths, areas for growth, social dynamics, or significant family experiences.
Please note that requests for specific teachers will not be accommodated.
-
Families of students entering 5th grade will receive a separate communication from The Skokie School regarding feedback.
-
For incoming Kindergarten students, feedback will be collected later this year through a separate form for families who have completed registration. If you haven’t yet registered and would like to provide input, please complete your child’s registration with the district office as soon as possible.
Final classroom rosters will be shared with families in late August, as we continue to monitor enrollment, potential staffing changes, and other adjustments that may arise over the summer.
Thank you for your partnership in supporting a successful start to the new school year!
