3rd-8th Grade State Testing Dates:

4/15, 4/16, 4/17, 4/18: 3rd-8th Reading & Math Assessments (2 parts each)
ALL students MUST have headphones (wired, not bluetooth) and their fully charged device & charger each day for testing.
Parents, please make sure that your students are present and arrive at school on time. If at all possible, please schedule doctor's appointments and the like on days that your student's grade level is not testing. Once a student has stated testing they can not make up any portion of that test if they are pulled out of school for appointments or illness before they finish. The state requires that all schools have 95% attendance for testing. Thank you for doing your part to ensure that this happens.

Hello Families,
The motto for this week is:
I am always improving.
One of the most helpful gifts we can offer our children is the ability to learn from feedback and the desire to continually improve. A key to seeking self-improvement is loving and accepting ourselves just as we are while also striving to improve. It's important to balance self-improvement with a strong self-esteem.
Here are some guiding principles that can aid in developing this useful trait in our children:
1.Acknowledge Effort Over Outcome
•OUTCOME acknowledgment may sound like, "I'm sorry you didn't get a position in student council. Which students were elected?"
•EFFORT acknowledgment may sound like: "I'm so proud of all the hard work you put into your campaign. You made posters and gave a speech in front of the entire school. Public speaking is not easy; good job getting out there and learning new skills."
2.Use Keeps & Starts
•KEEPS are what your child is doing well and should keep doing. "Keeps" can help kids identify and celebrate their strengths.
•STARTS are what your child can start doing to improve. "Starts" identifies the new skills that your child can focus on in order to continue to learn and grow.
For example, you can share their "keeps" and "starts" after your child plays soccer. It may sound like: "You did a great job staying focused on defense and shadowing your opponent. KEEP doing that – great job! Next time, you can START to look for opportunities to make a run or get in a position to shoot rather than wait for the ball to come to you."
When feedback focuses on what's working as well as what's not, it is not only easier to give and hear, but it is also easier to apply and improve.
Have a fantastic week,
Danna Evans All Things E.Q.
