Census Solutions Workshop
RI Libraries and Community Organizations
You are invited!
On April 10, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Warwick Public Library, the RI Office of Library & Information Services, the RI Division of Statewide Planning, and the U.S. Census Bureau will host a Census Solutions Workshop.
This interactive, design thinking workshop will bring together libraries and community organizations to learn more about the 2020 Census, discover how your library or organization can be involved, and most importantly, brainstorm ideas for how we can all help to ensure Rhode Island gets a complete and accurate count.
In bringing together library staff and community organizations, we are seeking to strengthen ties across the statewide community, and to provide an opportunity for cross-sector thinking to ensure an accurate count, especially of historically under-counted populations. Throughout the day, you will better understand why the 2020 Census is so important to Rhode Island, how you can find and use Census data, and what populations have been historically under-counted. Throughout the day, you will also brainstorm ideas for how to reach all Rhode Islanders, especially hard-to-count populations, and create a plan for how your library or organization can implement these ideas at a state and local level.
Libraries will play a critical role in the 2020 Census, which is the first census that will be conducted online. We encourage you to take advantage of this unique opportunity so that your library can play an active role in getting a full and accurate census count for Rhode Island. The results of this census will determine the funding that Rhode Island receives through federal programs for the next 10 years - funding that supports Medicaid, Head Start, SNAP (food stamps), Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), free and reduced school lunches, libraries (LSTA funding), and more.
If you plan to attend, we encourage you to extend the invitation to other leaders in your community, whether from local government, senior centers, the school department, healthcare organizations or other community agencies - anyone who, like libraries, has an investment in supporting our communities, especially those who are most vulnerable.
Please register to attend.
