Dear Slaybaugh Families,

I hope everyone was able to go out and enjoy the beautiful snow. In my opinion, just enough to have fun without causing too much havoc. At this point, I believe we are so fortunate to be able to switch to virtual in order to keep everyone safe and avoid making this year any longer than necessary.

I am sure that you received the correspondence that the board approved policy for students to return to hybrid from the virtual world each month rather than having to wait until the new marking period. If you would like your child to return to hybrid on March 1st, please send your request to me via email at marinelj@eht.k12.nj.us.

Next week at Slaybaugh we will be celebrating RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS WEEK and we will be discussing kindness at school, please feel free to also discuss with your child.

On Monday, Mrs. Flaherty's class enjoyed a Valentine's Day read aloud then designed virtual valentines for each other using Peardeck slides. Here are some of their warm valentine wishes!

Second grade PEP students learned about the engineering design process and simple machines as they built models of their dream playgrounds. Students designed and constructed working equipment like swings, seesaws, merry-go-rounds and slides. Creative thinking was in full force as they each decided how to best use the materials in their supply kits such as cardboard, straws, pipe cleaners and foam. Great job!

February 14th - 20th is Random Act of Kindness Week. This year more than any year it's so important to uphold the annual tradition of celebrating kindness. Scientific evidence shows us positive effects of doing kind acts for others as well as receiving or even witnessing kindness. It's important to remember that even the smallest act of kindness can change someones day.

Slaybaugh Complex is taking part in the Random Acts of Kindness challenge. We are giving all classes the rest of the month to complete the assigned task.

This Valentine’s Day you have the chance to brighten a child’s day at St. Jude’s Hospital. St.Jude’s research hospital has FREE virtual Valentine’s Day cards you can send to current patients. This is a very simple, easy, and quick process. You click create card, select a cute picture, select a pre written (or write your own) message, then put your name and submit! That’s all, and your done. 2 minutes to make a child in the hospital smile and know they are loved and thought about.
