The Buzz
Summer Term - 11th July 2024
Message from the Executive Headteacher
Dear Parents/Carers
Less than 2 weeks of term left and this is the penultimate Buzz of the academic year. Next week will include a message from the governors so please do look out for that.
This week, we took another step forward with school communications and sent out the end of year reports and year 6 SATs results. I've received many positive comments from parents regarding this and how smoothly it went. We have moved to Arbor and are beginning to use many of the features which are available. Please ensure you download the app.
The year 6 production is underway and the final performance is this evening. I was lucky to see the show last night and it really was tremendous, showcasing the talents of the children as well as the fantastic props and makeup which a wonderful team of year 6 parents have supported with. The year 6 staff and children have worked hard and the results are memorable. The show has been recorded and we will share the link when it's available.
Year 6 pupils also received their SATs results this week and should be very proud of their achievements. The children and staff worked very hard to achieve a strong set of results.
The expected standard or above was achieved by 80% of pupils in maths, 87% in reading, 88% in grammar, spelling and punctuation (GPS) and 80% in writing. Pupils at HJS exceeded the national average in all areas and we are very pleased.
Tomorrow there will be a mufti day in exchange for a bottle for the summer fair. In light of the England team's current success, children can wear an England top tomorrow if they wish. Bottles should go to the Rose hall for collection and let me remind you that there should be no football kits, belly tops, false nails, make up or slip on shoes. Appropriate clothing should be worn if the children have PE.
The summer fair on Saturday will start at 11.30 - 3 and I hope to see you there.
Have a wonderful weekend and fingers crossed for the England team.
Ms H Lockey
We have now ceased using Parenthub so please ensure you have downloaded the Arbor app to ensure you do not miss any important information.

Computing at HJS
At Hampton Junior School, we offer an exciting computing curriculum which covers a variety of topics and gives pupils an insight into the world of computing. Pupils are exposed to a range of topics involving programming and creating media. Pupils use a range of technology to enhance their learning.
In year 3, pupils use iPads to create their own stop-motion animation video on a topic of their choosing. Following this they use chrome books to programme sprites in a maze on scratch. As pupils move to year 4, they use data loggers to collect information about the temperature, light and humidity in areas around the school. In programming, they use Chromebooks to program a sprite and create their own game. In year 5, pupils take part in their first physical computing unit where they program crumble kits to make a spinning top. This builds to year 6, as pupils use the senses on micro bits to trigger responses such as touch to turn a light on and off or to display a message.
At HJS, we feel that it is important to support the children in becoming digitally literate and well-rounded digital citizens. We have been fortunate enough to learn about the electronic world around us and use a range of technology. To support this, pupils have attended assemblies and workshops with a focus on internet safety, their digital footprint and how to conduct themselves online. Pupils regularly share their online safety tips with each other and recommend what someone should do if they feel uncomfortable about something that has happened online. Parents can also find further information in the ‘Wake up Wednesday’ articles published in The Buzz and online.
