December 2024
Holidays
This is our new newsletter platform! Hopefully this is easier for you to use than the Canva newsletters. The holidays have brought so much fun and philanthropy to LUSI! I have really enjoyed our microschool parties! I am hoping to continue our fun into the winter holidays!
Reminder: LUSI will be closed December 23rd - January 3rd. We will reopen January 6th.
December Activities
School Activities
The students have said that they would like to do a Christmas Party with a "Dirty Santa" game. We will play with a small $5 gift per person. I will send out a Signup Genius for party food signups closer to party time. Our party will be on December 19th. Feel free to dress up in your holiday attire or ugly Christmas sweater!
I have also planned for us all to go see "A Christmas Carol" at ASF on December 13th for our Fun Friday trip this month. If your student needs a ride please let me know in the form below.

Book of the Month
Our book for December is Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol". I figured this was fitting since we are going to see the play. We will read through this piece, see the play at ASF, compare the reading with different versions of this same story, analyze characters, study the author, and more!
Theme of the Month
Our theme for December will be generosity. Last month we focused on what we were grateful for, and I would like to build on that by focusing generosity and giving being more important than receiving during the holiday season. There are many ways for us all to contribute to those in need. This year I would love for our school to participate in Closet of Love. They give Christmas gifts for children in foster care and protective custody. They currently have 32 children ages 12-20 who are not sponsored. As we all know, this age asks for more expensive items such as iPads, Apple Watches, TV's, Jordan/Nike shoes, gift cards, etc. If you would be willing to purchase any of these items or make a donation towards a gift it would be much appreciated! I encourage you to have your student help out as well by donating a portion of their allowance, donating an electronic or gaming console they no longer use, or they could go with you to help pick out something for another child.. There are great sales going on and pawn shops sometimes have great deals! You can also sponsor a child yourself from your family to buy from their full list. The Facebook group is called Closet of Love. You can also Venmo: Sonya-Sheets-1. All gifts are due by December 15th.
