The eLeader
The official digital newsletter of La Porte ISD
Greetings, La Porte ISD Family.
Today is a great day to be a Bulldog! As we enter the seventh week of this school year, I am happy to report that I’ve seen a lot of teaching and learning during my visits to classrooms across the district. I know that our students will continue to grow academically as we move forward and keep the main thing the main thing – student success.
Our Bulldogs football team is undefeated in district play after a phenomenal performance against Barbers Hill on Friday! It’s homecoming week in La Porte ISD, and I invite you to join us at Eagle Stadium in Mont Belvieu this Friday to support our students, enjoy the festivities and cheer our team to another victory.
Superintendent's Celebrations
- Congratulations to our fifth and sixth-grade GT scholars who kicked off our new Project Launch partnership with the University of Houston-Clear Lake. The program offers students two courses of study for the year, including animation, coding, game design and environmental science. (See photos below.)
- I also want to offer my congratulations to every student and staff member who participated in the Beanstack Summer Reading Challenge with more than 61,000 combined minutes! We have since begun our challenge for the school year with a goal of 1.5 million minutes reading.
- Our Board of Trustees is seeing the excellence in our classrooms first-hand with their 'Board Walks,' during which school board members tour campuses and offer their support to our students and staff. We are all grateful for their commitment to helping us continue our legacy of excellence.
Have a great week!

Power Up for the PSAT
This past week we hosted a PSAT livestream event to educate our La Porte ISD parents about the upcoming PSAT exam in October. This event served as a valuable resource for parents seeking information and clarity regarding this important assessment. During the livestream, our dedicated team were available to answer questions from parents and provide essential information about the PSAT exam. We understand that this exam plays a significant role in our students' academic journey, and we are committed to ensuring that our parents have all the information they need to support their children in this endeavor. Watch the livestream here.
CTE students attend Gulf Coast Industry Forum
La Porte CTE students showcased their soft skills at the Gulf Coast Industry Forum and Student Breakfast this past week. The event provided a valuable opportunity for our students to network with industry representatives and community colleges across our region. During the event, our students had the chance to interact with industry professionals who generously shared their expertise in developing soft skills. This interaction is a crucial step in preparing our students for success beyond high school.
Floral Design students participated in learning outside of the classroom recently as part of the Texas A&M University Turfgrass Career Day. Students had the opportunity to visit Minute Maid Park and Dynamo Field to learn about careers in the turfgrass industry.
We are proud of our students' active participation in these events and their commitment to honing essential skills that will serve them well in their future careers. This experience underscores our dedication to providing a well-rounded education that goes beyond the classroom.
Engage & Educate Series
Plan on joining us on Sept. 26 for free pizza, soda and lots of information about our GT program and other district offerings.

Announcing Parent University
We are pleased to share important upcoming dates for our Parent Virtual Support sessions aimed at providing valuable information and assistance to La Porte USD parents in supporting their children's learning at home. Please refer to the attached flyer for specific details. These sessions have been thoughtfully designed to empower parents with the tools and resources they need to effectively assist their children with remote learning. We understand that the partnership between home and school is crucial for our students' success, and these virtual support sessions are one way we are strengthening that partnership. We encourage all parents to participate in these sessions to gain insights, ask questions, and connect with fellow parents. Together, we can create a supportive and engaging learning environment for our children, whether they are attending classes in person or remotely. See Parent University session dates here.
Teacher Features
Ms. Morgan Camp, World Geography teacher at The Academy of Viola DeWalt High School, creates meaningful learning experiences for her students. She incorporates interactive lessons into her classroom to engage students. We are thankful that Ms. Camp chose La Porte ISD to make a positive impact on our students!
Bayshore fifth-grade teacher Ms. Michelle Gilchrist's class participates in a "book tasting," which enables them to spend a little time reading books and taking notes on what they like. At the end of the fun exercise, the students select the books they want to read in their entirety.
