February Update
Glasscock County ISD
Bearkat Families,
Welcome to February! We’ve had many successes to start the new year, and as we navigate the spring semester, we remain committed to supporting your students with their busy schedules and academic needs. We will continue to do everything we can from the schoolhouse. It truly takes a village!
Did you know we use GermBlast? With the increase in illnesses, they came to GC last week and sprayed the entire district. We will continue to remind students of the importance of hand washing.
Thank you for your continued support of our Bearkats!
Let's continue Achieving Excellence Together!

Student Section
Our student section was on fire during the games against Blackwell! Thank you for helping us teach the importance of school pride and how to be respectful fans.
When one Bearkat wins, we all win!
Glasscock County SWCD
Help us celebrate our Glasscock County SWCD 5th grade poster contest winners:
1st Place Monserrat Cortez
2nd Place Kameron Ezell
3rd Place Tatum Hartl
Monserrat and Kameron will advance to the Area II contest and will be recognized at a banquet in March for their district win.
NHS in Chicago
Our National Honor Society officers attended the national conference in Chicago, and we are excited to see what they learned and how they can implement their new ideas at Garden City High School.
Ag Mech Project Spotlight
Carson Goodwin showed off his project during the GC Livestock Show. We are excited to see how our 27 student projects do at the upcoming Ag Mech Shows. The awards for the San Angelo show will be announced on Monday, February 3rd.
Agriculture in the Classroom
Cody Trimble and Erika Batla had a blast this past fall with Ag in the Classroom. Our third graders have learned so much and look forward to what the spring brings. Brayson Williams won 1st place with his poster showing how agriculture in Glasscock County looks through his eyes.
4-H Leaders
If you have not been to a home district basketball game, you have not had the opportunity to hear Brylon bless us with her vocals while singing the National Anthem. During the opening ceremonies for the Livestock Show, she did an amazing job, along with her peers who led us through the Pledge, prayers, and the 4-H Creed.
Bond Update
If you haven’t seen it yet, we have a new temporary building at GCISD. The current administration building will be renovated to house our new daycare. We are working with Collier and CADCO to complete this project, which is part of the 2022 BOND. Be on the lookout for construction to begin in late February or early March. We can't wait to have more spots to accommodate families in need within our community. The temporary building will serve as the new administration office. Come see us anytime!
What's going on with BOND 2024? We will be interviewing CMAR companies at our February 12th board meeting. This is a crucial step to ensure we plan the projects appropriately, which will ultimately provide us with an amazing finished result!

Academic Update
Teacher Incentive Allotment
GCISD will be applying to become a Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) eligible district. We are excited about this, as it rewards staff and leads to improved student outcomes. The Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) helps attract and retain highly qualified educators, especially in high-need and rural areas, by offering financial rewards for excellent teaching. By providing higher salaries, TIA incentivizes teachers to pursue advanced certifications, such as National Board Certification, which further enhances their effectiveness in the classroom. Studies have shown that students of Board-Certified teachers perform better, particularly in low-income communities, making the TIA a tool for improving educational outcomes where they are needed most. TIA recognizes and rewards exceptional teaching, fostering a culture of excellence and motivating teachers to continuously improve their skills and impact on student success.
One area we are also focusing on with TIA is National Board Certification. We truly believe the growth a teacher will gain through this process is immeasurable. Be on the lookout for more information about how our teachers are making the choice to improve their craft.
