WELCOME AN AFS STUDENT INTO YOUR HOME
Follow in the footsteps of many Hingham families before you who have hosted AFS students from around the world as family members! Your participation provides both the student and community an opportunity to help build bridges of intercultural understanding and create a more peaceful world. With help from local hosting volunteers, YOU choose a student who best fits your family’s interests and lifestyle. Many great candidates are available, like Amanda from Chile, a cheerful, outgoing, dedicated student who enjoys listening to music, watching sports and, especially, playing volleyball! Or Nanon (M), from Thailand, an excellent, friendly student, the youngest of triplets, who plays several instruments, teaches piano lessons, enjoys doing puzzles, and hopes to be a doctor someday. Students arrive in August, eager to experience what it's like to live in the US with a new family and attend Hingham High School. You supply a bed and meals, share your family life and activities, and give the kind of care, support, and comfort you would offer your own child. AFS local volunteers and program staff provide regular support to you and your hosted student to help you both get the most out of your time together. Contact local volunteer Deb Gallagher at 781-264-6769 or dgafs@yahoo.com with questions. OR visit www.afsusa.org to view available students and start an application!
Finally, as noted in recent newsletters, our counseling department has developed a new infographic that summarizes the many supports available to HHS students. Be sure to check it out.
The daily notices and full school calendar can always be viewed on the HHS website. Look for details on the website and in our weekly PTO newsletter.
