Autumn is Here
Dear Seymour Smith Community:
It’s already October! We started off the year with the concept of engagement. Across the building we're working on fostering behavior engagement, relational engagement, and academic engagement as it relates to the 3 priorities areas of the District Strategic Plan - Student Experience, Community Connections, and Academic Excellence. Already your children are growing as readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, explorers, and as human beings. Over the next few weeks we will be in the process of administering benchmark assessments and will then interpret the results. This is a gradual process because we take great care and concern in ensuring our goal setting process is accurate, meaningful and appropriate. As students fall into the routine of daily lessons, homework will fall into place, and fall will gradually turn to winter. We value your partnership as we embark on another year’s journey together. Thank you for taking the time to attend Open House! Please remember report cards will be published November 15th. If you haven’t already done so, please reach out to your child’s teacher to schedule a Parent-Teacher conference for November. And of course, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out!
Enjoy the apple picking and pumpkin carving! I'm looking forward to our goal of making memories by fostering engagement.
Halloween
While our classroom teachers are engaged in many learning activities on Halloween, we will be taking time out of our morning to parade around the building in costume. If your child wishes, they may come to school with their costume on (making sure it’s safe for bus riding), or put it on at the appropriate time at school. No costume masks, or props, please. Costumes should adhere to the District Code of Conduct. If they do not want to dress up, we encourage students to wear Blue to show their school spirit!

Cafeteria News
Breakfast Service ends at 10:30. Although free, the ladies need to start preparing lunch at that time.
Also, please refrain from sending in unprepared, frozen, or uncooked meals with you child that require our cafeteria aides to prep, microwave, or cook. While we understand certain circumstances arise, we are unable to accommodate multiple requests on a daily basis to do so. Hot & cold lunches are free, as well as a la carte items are available for purchase daily.
Don’t forget there’s an app for MySchoolBucks that allows you to view what your child has been purchasing at lunchtime. It also allows you to replenish the amount of money on their account. If you feel that you may qualify for Free/Reduced Lunch prices, please fill out the paperwork, it comes back to the school, 100%. You may still send in a check or cash with your child for their daily lunch/snack or to replenish the balance of the account.
