Dragon Community Newsletter #27
Denn John Middle School 24-25: March 3, 2025
Together! Always!
Dragon Community,
Welcome to the month of March! As we enter the second half of the semester, I want to take a moment to stress the importance of this time for your child's academic progress. As we begin reviewing for the upcoming state assessments, attendance becomes even more critical. Consistent presence in the classroom is essential for students to fully engage with the review material and have the best opportunity to succeed.
In addition to regular classroom instruction, we are offering after-school state testing tutoring to support students who may need extra help in preparing for the assessments. This tutoring session is designed to give students the chance to review key concepts, ask questions, and receive personalized assistance. I strongly encourage your child to take advantage of this opportunity, as it can make a significant difference in their preparation and confidence moving forward.
As always, we ask that you continue prioritizing academics at home. Please take the time to monitor your child's progress, especially their grades and unit test scores. Regularly checking their grades on our school platform can help identify areas where they might need additional support. By staying engaged, you can work alongside us to ensure that your child is performing to the best of their ability.
We are committed to helping every student succeed and ensuring they feel fully prepared for the state assessments. Your support plays a crucial role in this effort, and we are grateful for your partnership.
Thank you for your continued support in helping our students achieve their fullest potential.

At Home Support
1. Parent Portal Sign Up
The best way to know live data of your student's performance is through the parent portal! Here you can see grades, attendance, discipline referrals, teacher notes, and testing information in live time. For your reference, below you will find the attachment to sign up. I highly recommend this for all parents!
2. Create a Consistent Study Routine
Establishing a set time and quiet space for studying each day helps children develop good study habits. Consistency is key—having a designated spot for homework and study time ensures that your child can focus without distractions. Encourage breaks when needed, and help them set goals for their study sessions.
3. Stay Involved and Monitor Progress
Regularly check your child’s grades, assignments, and upcoming tests. Many schools offer online portals where you can monitor progress in real-time. Make it a habit to sit down with your child to discuss their progress, challenges, and any upcoming tests. This will not only keep you informed but also show your child that you are actively engaged in their education.
4. Encourage Reading and Literacy Development
Reading is a foundational skill that impacts all areas of learning. Set aside time each day for your child to read, whether it’s a book, article, or even educational websites. Encourage discussions about what they’ve read to help develop critical thinking and comprehension skills. Reading together as a family can also strengthen your child’s love for learning.
5. Provide Emotional and Motivational Support
Academic success is not just about skills; it’s also about mindset. Encourage your child to persevere through challenges and praise their efforts, not just their results. Create a positive learning environment where mistakes are seen as learning opportunities. When your child feels supported emotionally, they’re more likely to stay motivated and confident in their abilities.
6. Limit Distractions and Manage Screen Time
While technology can be a great learning tool, it can also be a source of distraction. Help your child manage their screen time by setting boundaries for recreational screen use during homework time. Encourage the use of educational apps or websites, but make sure that social media or video games don’t interfere with their academic focus.
By implementing these strategies, parents can create a home environment that fosters academic success and supports their child's learning journey.
