CUP STACKING 2024
I am really excited about the Sport Stacking unit we are starting in PE. Sport Stacking is an exciting sport where students stack and unstack 12-specially designed cups (Speed Stacks). It promotes hand-eye coordination, brain activation, fitness, teamwork, speed and lots of fun. Sport Stacking is a part of the Junior Olympic Games, and there are tournaments available all over the world for those who wish to compete. Meadowlark has had students who have competed in tournaments and have even set a world record! Some of our classes will be competing in an in-class tournament and the championship round will take place during the pep-assembly on November 22nd.
On November 12th, 13th and 14th hundreds of thousands of participants will take part in the 2024 STACK UP!. Each year the World Sport Stacking Association organizes this worldwide opportunity to set the WSSA World Record for "The Most People Sport Stacking at Multiple Locations". In 2023, 746,698 stackers participated to break the previous STACK UP! record of 737,863.
This year we hope to have over 775,000 stackers contribute their sport stacking skills from across the United States and around the world in locations such as Australia, Spain, Germany, Japan, Canada and more.
I have Speed Stacks Sets and Stack Mats for students to purchase here at the school. A percentage of sales will go to provide more equipment for the PE program.
Speed Stacks Sets and StackMats are available for immediate purchase. First come, first served on color and design choices.
Regular Sets are $25.00.

I have a limited supply of colors and quantities. Please look over the Speed Stacks order form that your child will be bringing home. Choose from the list on the form and encourage your student to have a 2nd and even 3rd choice in mind. Return payment to the school

2024-25 SAFER, SMARTER KIDS
September 27, 2024
Dear Parent or Caregiver,
The Andover USD 385 Board of Education approved the purchase of a new elementary school counseling program called Safer, Smarter Kids to support our counselors in addressing the Kansas Social, Emotional, and Character Model Standards. This curriculum was created by educators, developmental psychologists, and experts in abuse prevention to teach personal safety with engaging age-appropriate lessons and activities. The Safer, Smarter Kids curriculum will provide your child with protective principles and the knowledge needed to identify and avoid unsafe situations, people, and behaviors - and how to access help.
The school counselor will teach these lessons during the regularly scheduled counselor class time. The lessons incorporate videos and in-class activities that address topics such as body boundaries, respecting yourself and others, the difference between safe and unsafe secrets, listening to your “Guiding Voice” and telling a trusted adult when a situation makes you feel confused or uncomfortable. You may view the lesson sequence, specific lesson topics, and related resources for each grade level using this link.
If you would like to learn more about the curriculum and see sample lessons, please visit www.SaferSmarterKids.org. For more information on ways to keep your child safe, teach personal safety lessons at home, and how to identify unsafe adults, visit www.SaferSmarterFamilies.org.
If you have questions about the curriculum, or, if after reviewing the lessons you would like to “opt-out” of specific lessons for your child, please email Brooke Holcomb no later than Friday, October 4,, 2024.
Sincerely,
Dana Matheny, School Principal
Brooke Holcomb, School Counselor
