This year under Wisconsin’s new reading bill, Act 20, Northview will be administering AIMSWeb as a reading screener. All students in kindergarten through third grade will take the screener three times a year (fall, winter, and spring). Kindergarten students will be assessed on initial sounds, auditory vocabulary, letter naming fluency, and letter word sounds fluency (decoding). Students in first grade will be assessed on phoneme segmentation and letter word sound fluency in fall in addition to an auditory vocabulary and oral reading fluency measure. Second and third graders will be assessed on vocabulary and oral reading fluency. These assessments will help us identify students in need of additional reading support.

After our first few weeks of our new dismissal process, I am very pleased with the system. We have made adjustments to make improvements that have helped the dismissal line move faster and not be as long. Today we start our new pick up location for our afternoon junior kindergarten and kindergarten families. This will take approximately 25 cars out of the line and allow for our youngest students to be buckled into car seats with less pressure of keeping the line moving.

I am very appreciative of the parents that have contacted me with great ideas and suggestions for dismissal. All ideas have helped our staff develop and adjust for a successful dismissal.

Northview’s monthly character trait for the month of September is Friendship with a school mantra of “I am friendly. I am considerate.” The start of the school year brings mixed emotions when it comes to friendship. Some students feel excited to be reunited with their friends, whereas other students might feel nervous. All feelings are okay and expected! We have been spending a great deal of time talking about what it means to be a good friend, how to make a friend, and learning about our new friends. We came together for our first school-wide assembly for the year and had a great time building community, learning about characteristics of positive friendships, and playing a staff versus student relay game! We will continue to come together for school-wide assemblies one time each month. For the remainder of September, we will continue to learn how to be a kind and considerate friend in all areas of our building!

month! We enjoyed seeing everyone as students reunited with friends, met their new teachers,

and got ready for the school year!

quarter of the Varsity Football game on Friday, September 20 as the Tigers take on the Flying

Dutchmen! We will be providing Tiger tattoos and face painting, so make sure you stop by for

some added school spirit!

• Monday, October 14 - PTO Meeting: Join us for our monthly PTO Meeting at 5:00pm in the

Northview Library. Everyone is welcome! Free babysitting is provided if requested within 72

Northview Elementary. It will be a night of family fun featuring a costume party, dance, and

book exchange!

year, where a portion of all sales is donated back to the PTO.

4th grade is off to a great start! We've already begun to build up our classroom community and create memories. Some of these memories include their 1st grade buddies. We will do many fun things with the 1st graders this year including lunch and recess as well as monthly activities. It is so cool to see the 4th graders step up and become role models for them throughout the year! We are already learning many things! In math, we are working on place value, addition and subtraction with larger numbers. In writing, students have selected story ideas and we are in the process of making our rough drafts. Lastly, in reading, we are all reading the book, "The Tiger Rising." Students will take the skills learned through "The Tiger Rising" and apply it to their own chapter book. We have a fun project and celebration awaiting them once the time comes around! We are looking forward to creating more memories and fun learning experiences for our students!
