Norris Middle Short Story Competition
By Claire Cox
The Norris Middle school-wide story competition has finally ended. It was wonderful seeing how much work each student put into their stories! The stories were all so creative, ranging from amazing adventures to exhilarating thrillers. We had over a dozen entries and the Literacy Committee panel, made up of teachers and students, judged the entries using an extensive rubric. The submitted narratives had to be original, include all the plot elements, create vivid characters, and have an understandable lesson. No matter whether a story was placed or not they were all stunning! However, there has to be a winner, and the top three were Mia E, Melanie K, and Chloe P. Chloe was the grand-prize winner, as she has a perfect score for her short story “The Crow.” The dialogue was sharp, the plot propulsive, and the vocabulary sophisticated. Next year, the Short Story Competition will be named after her in her honor.
