DISTRICT NEWS
Announcement of Initial Bond Funding Approval
Avondale School District is pleased to announce that the Board of Education has officially approved the first round of funding from the 2024 Bond. The initial issuance of $54 million, part of the total approved amount of $150 million, is scheduled for release in February 2025. Over the course of the bond, the district will receive three distributions of funds through bond sales, 2025, 2026 and 2028.
Next steps include collaborating with our financial advisors on due diligence calls, preparing and advertising bid documents, organizing project timelines based on needs of the district, investing and planning cash flow, and creating planning committees. These efforts will ensure that we are ready to begin implementing planned improvements.
Staff and families can expect a comprehensive bond update, which will include tentative timelines for Phase 1 projects and information about upcoming planning committees, in the first week of December. Additionally, the district will provide quarterly updates via email, which will also be available on the district website at www.avondaleschools.org/bond.
We are excited to begin these long-awaited school improvements and are committed to engaging with our community to ensure that all feedback is considered throughout the process!
MSVMA Regional Honors Choir High Achievements
We would like to express our sincere congratulations to the high school choir students listed below, who successfully auditioned for the Michigan School Vocal Music Association (MSVMA) Regional Honors Choir earlier in October. These gifted students will engage in a full day of rehearsals, a concert performance, and auditions for the state honors choir on Saturday, December 7th, at Allen Park High School.
MSVMA Regional Honors Choir Participants:
Travis Braman
Nicolas Chaparro
Twyla Evans
Katherine Garduno
DeJon Jackson
Margaret Kennedy
Leonidas Noel
We wish them all the best as they prepare for their auditions for the state honors choir on December 7th!
Avondale Middle School Polar Bear Stroll
There are a number of ways families and community members can help AMS to reach their goal of raising $7,000 to help support Avondale Families in need. Each student has a goal of raising $50. Families and community members can make a pledge through a student or purchase "shout outs" to be read as students walk. Make a donation of $1-$100+ to give a shout out during the stroll.
Pledges and "Shout outs" can be made by cash, checks made out to Avondale Middle School, or credit card on e-funds: https://payments.efundsforschools.com/v3/districts/56710
Proceeds will help to buy coats, boots and high need items, along with a special present for the holidays for families in the Avondale Community.
Gift of Giving Holiday Drive
Each year, Gift of Giving adopts between 450-500 children during the holiday season to provide them with coats, boots, snow pants, clothes, pants, shoes, food, and other basic needs. Each child receives 2 high need items that have been identified by their parents/guardians to ensure that the right basic needs are met.
The program depends on our sponsor's generosity in order to provide the high need items for each child. Through the Adopt-A-Child/Children, you are able to make a difference!
How it works:
1. Identify the number of children you would like to adopt
2. Gift of Giving will provide you with a list with all the items per child. Each child is given a child's ID to keep the privacy of the family.
3. Gift of Giving will provide you with holiday bags, labeled with the child's ID, for the high need items and holiday gift.
4. The completed bags would need to be dropped off at Avondale Administration Building on Wednesday, December 11th between 4-7PM or Thursday, December 12th between 11-3PM.
