TCW MINNIE HOWARD LIBRARY
September 2017
The beginning of school is always my favorite time of the year. New ninth grade titans are eager to find their way to the library. Students have been in early in the morning to discover and explore the books and resources in our library. As I meet and greet excited faces, it reminds me of why I became a librarian and why the library is always the heart of the school.
CHECKING OUT BOOKS/LIBRARY SIGN IN
Students can check out books independently before classes begin, during the lunch block or after-school.
(We have already checked out books to several eager bookworms by accessing their name in our circulation system)
When students receive their student ID, it will also become their library card to scan for quicker check-out.
LIBRARY LUNCH PASSES
This week students can pick up lunch passes in the library before classes or get from their first period teachers. (Ms. Muse will place in your mailboxes by Wed)
We will have laminated library passes for students to pick up during their library orientation on next week. Students will be asked to staple or tape their library lunch pass in their agenda to keep during the year.

TCW MH LIBRARY CANVAS PAGE IS UP!
I will assist students during their library orientation with accessing library resources on the MH Library's Canvas Page.
Library Catalog
Our library catalog is named Destiny. The Destiny Library catalog is accessible for all ACPS school libraries on the web https://goo.gl/8HTvrv
Students will be able to log into the catalog with their student ID to create book lists, place holds on books and materials.
Since our catalog is a public web-based catalog, students can access in the classroom, at home or at a mobile hotspot.
I will share more information about the catalog during the library orientation :)

E-book - Audiobooks
Our e-book collection is hosted on Destiny Discover. Students can access the collection through canvas or Destiny catalog.
Students and staff can read or listen to great titles anywhere they can access the internet.
(We have approximately 1500 e-books & audio-books)

I will review our databases and register students for NoodleTools during library orientation.
T.C. READS @MH
T.C. READS is a reading campaign promoted on both campuses. This is an incentive for students to read fun selected picks during the school year.
Student participating in T.C. READS will earn a special invite to the library's " end of year" celebration.

SUMMER READERS ARE MH LEADERS!
Our SUMMER READING BOOKMARK was our summer reading initiative for rising 8th graders - now our 9th grade titans! We celebrate students who read books over the summer. MH Titans can drop the bookmarks in our basket during library orientation or e-mail their summer reading titles to minniehowardlibrary@gmail.com
We are celebrating the 5th year of my Graphic Novel Book Club!
If you have students interested in comics or graphic novels - send them to the library to get information on joining our "animated" book club :)
