STILLSON BUZZ
May 2024 Newsletter
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Stillson Families,
The end of the school year is only a few short weeks away! We have a lot of events coming up, including field trips, the 4th grade wax museum, the 3rd grade hobby fair, our 5th grade farewell program, the talent show, and much more! Please take a moment to glance at the upcoming events listed below!
The last day of school for our students is Wednesday, May 29th. This will be a full day for students. As we wrap up the school year, report cards will be available on the infinite campus portal on June 4, and will be mailed home that day as well.
Recently, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students completed the Wisconsin Forward Exam. We are proud of them and all their hard work! The results are used to help us determine gaps in our instruction and celebrate what is going well. Congrats on completing this challenge, students!
School-wide, we have been focusing on the power of intention- mistakes happen and they are good opportunities to learn. Students are learning that “oops” means other opportunities to practice skills!
As we close out the school year, I find myself reflecting on what a great school-community this truly is. From the staff, to the students, to the families- Stillson is a wonderful place to be!
As always, thank you for your partnership and support!
Sincerely,
Jennifer Sarauer
Stillson Elementary Principal
P.S. look for a June newsletter for August/September dates to remember!

PBIS NEWS
Nobody’s Perfect
Our PBIS focus this month is the Power of Intention - Mistakes are opportunities to learn. Everyone makes mistakes, it’s how we handle those mistakes that matters. Students are learning that if they make a mistake, they need to ask themselves, “What can I learn from this?”
Ask yourself why did the mistake happen?
Fix the situation if you can. If you need help, ask.
Think about what you will do the next time.
So, remind your student that an OOPS means Other Opportunities to Practice Skills.
Last month's orange ticket drawing winner was Bennett. He chose a rootbeer float classroom party.
Summer’s almost here. We will end the school year with a 3 Be Celebration on May 28th. We hope everyone has an enjoyable summer while still practicing the 3 Be’s when they are away from school.
Local Humane Association Donations
Stillson donated $250 to the Eau Claire Humane Association and $750 for the Chippewa Humane Association. The money went to help provide needed medical care/surgeries, food, and pet care products.
CHANGE IN LAST DAY OF SCHOOL FOR K-5
Dear Families,
We wanted to inform you of a change in the last day of school for elementary students. The new last day will be on May 29, 2024, instead of the previously scheduled May 30, 2024. Please note that this change is only for our K-5 students. 4K, MS, and HS students will still have school on May 30th.
This adjustment is necessary to provide teachers with dedicated time to begin training as mandated by the state under Act 20 for all public schools. Act 20 initiates a statewide adherence to science-based early literacy instruction to address low reading proficiency across the state.
Your partnership and support in allowing this time for our educators to focus on enhancing their skills in the area of literacy are highly appreciated. We know that the benefits of this training will contribute positively to the learning experience of our students.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.
START/END TIMES
Drop Off to School Begins : 7:20am
Line Up from Playground/Enter Building/Breakfast Served : 7:35am
End of Day/Dismissal to Bus and Pick Up : 2:35pm
ON-SITE CHIROPRACTOR
Wrapping up the school year can cause extra stress. Neck pain, muscle tightness, headaches and fatigue are all symptoms of stress, even in children. Chiropractic adjustments help the spine release the tension held in muscles, which relaxes the body, reducing stress.
Contact us at onsitechiroinfo@gmail.com if you’d like us to help your child wrap up the school year with chiropractic care.
Did you know that we offer care to students during the summer months as well? Our team of doctors have specific hours over the summer to continue care for all our school chiropractic students. Let us know if you have any questions by emailing or call 715-382-6864.
LUNCH VISITORS
If you would like to have lunch with your child(ren), we ask you call 24 hours in advance and schedule. Only two families are being scheduled per lunch session at this time.
If another family member wishes to have lunch with your child(ren), we will need the parent/guardian to call and schedule it with Stillson. At no time is a non-parent/guardian permitted to schedule visits.
If purchasing a lunch from the school on the day of your visit, adult lunch tickets cost $4.00.
Any questions, please feel free to call or email the office.

MEDICAL EXCUSES FOR ABSENCES
If you child will be out due to an illness or medical appointment, please ask for a doctor's excuse or note so we can medically excuse your child. Medical excuses do not count towards attendance reports. Here are the approved examples of medical excuses noted on attendance:
- Doctor note excusing for certain dates
- Doctor note excusing for surgery and recovery time
- Doctor note excusing for same day doctor appointment
- Being sent home due to fever of 100.4 (we mark medical)
- Being sent home due to confirmed vomiting or diarrhea (we mark medical)
- Being sent home due to unexplained rash of unknown origin (we mark medical)
- Following our 24 hour rule of no fever/fever reducing meds/vomiting/diarrhea (we mark medical)
Many times parents/guardians are unaware of the total number of days their child has been absent and/or tardy. Wisconsin Law 118.15 requires that students miss no more than 10 days each school year. The absences counted are excused and unexcused.
