June 6th Field Day for Bay View 7th Graders
Mark your calendars, June 6th will be Field Day for our 7th grade students!
We will have four rotations of fun. Please send your child with a water bottle and perhaps have them apply sunscreen for that day because we will be spending a lot of the time outside.
End of Year Medication Pick-Up Information
Dear Parent/Guardian,
The end of the school year is quickly approaching! All unused medications must be picked up by the end of the school year (6/6/2024). The school cannot allow your child to bring the medication home themselves. If you need to make special arrangements to pick up medication, please call/email/text the school nurse or call the school secretary to make arrangements. Medications not picked up will be discarded on 6/7/2024.
Important information to keep in mind for next school year:
● New medication form for both prescription and over-the-counter medications must be filled out and signed by health care provider (for prescription) and parent/guardian
● Medication must remain in properly labeled pharmacy or original over-the-counter container
● The parent/guardian is responsible to have the medication delivered directly to the school in a properly labeled original container by an adult.
● Medication forms are available on the district website or may be obtained from the school office.
If you have an emergency medication such as EpiPen, Albuterol, Glucagon, or Intranasal Seizure medication that your student will need for summer school, it will be your responsibility to pick it up from their current school and bring it to summer school. Please contact the school nurse with any questions or concerns.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation. I hope you and your family have a safe and fun summer!

Bay View Literacy News
Teaching middle schoolers to evaluate sources equips them with essential skills for navigating an increasingly complex and information-rich world, empowering them to become informed and responsible citizens. So, how can we evaluate our sources effectively?
Authority: They should check the author or organization behind the source. Is the author an expert in the field? Is the organization reputable?
Accuracy: Encourage them to assess the accuracy of the information provided. Are there references or citations to back up the claims made? Are there any obvious errors or biases?
Currency: Check when the source was published or last updated. Some topics require the most current information, while others may not be as time-sensitive.
Objectivity/Bias: Help them recognize any potential bias in the source. Is the information presented objectively, or does it seem to promote a particular agenda or viewpoint?
Relevance: Determine if the information is relevant to their research topic. Does it address the specific questions they're trying to answer?
Consistency: Check if the information presented is consistent with other reliable sources. If there are conflicting reports, they should investigate further to determine which source is more trustworthy.
Encouraging middle schoolers to critically analyze sources using these criteria can help them develop essential research skills and become more discerning consumers of information.

DigiKnow: Promoting Digital Wellness at Home
Creating a safe and balanced digital environment is critical to our children's well-being in today's ever-connected world. Two important aspects of this are:
- Screen time, the amount of time spent on devices
- Content filtering, which controls the materials accessible to them
This resource aims to provide insights and options that parents can explore at home, allowing them to tailor their child's digital journey with confidence. For more information visit HSSD Technology or Common Sense Media. Please contact Kelly Koller, Technology Integration Specialist, for questions at kellkoll@hssdschools.org
The Attendance Spotlight
The Giving Tree
Through the end of the school year The Giving Tree is collecting toothbrushes and toothpaste for our August Back-to-School Event. Please feel free to send donations with your students to put in the collections bins/carts near the main office of school. Items can also be dropped off during school hours. The Giving Tree appreciates the community support in helping remove barriers to a student’s education.
Math Videos / Website
Did you know that the Bay View Math teachers have created hundreds of math videos to help support both students and parents? If your child is stuck on a topic or wants to see an extra example explained by a teacher at Bay View, check out these websites. There are hundreds of videos created on most math topics that we cover throughout the year. Just search for a topic in the search bar or in the channel to get started.

STUDENT PICK-UP PROTOCOL
If you are picking a student up during the school day, you must come into the main office and sign the student out with your Driver's License. If someone other than you or your emergency contacts is picking up your student, please contact the office to let them know who is picking your student up. Students are not allowed to leave during school hours via bike or walking without prior approval from the main office and Principal.
HEALTH ROOM PROTOCOL
If your student is not feeling well, they need to follow protocol and come to the health room to report their illness prior to contacting home. Students should not be using their iPad to email a parent or texting a parent to pick them up. This will eliminate the spread of illnesses to other students and will make the office aware of students being picked up prior to parent arrival.
