Oak Leaf Weekly Update
River Oak Charter School
The Little Plant
In the heart of a seed,
Buried deep so deep
A tiny plant
Lay fast asleep
“Wake,” said the voice of sunlight bright,
”And creep into the light.”
”Wake,” said the voice
Of the raindrops bright.
The little plant heard
And it woke to see,
What the wonderful,
Outside world might be.
Happy Spring!

"If You Give a Pig a Pancake" Breakfast, Pajama and Read-in Day!
Wednesday, March 16, 2022
Details: The Ukiah Host Lions club is bringing their pancake trailer to co-host a school wide breakfast for our students (we hope to include a gluten free option) with the Parent Council. We’ll be sending out a signup for a few donations to complete the breakfast, fresh fruit, and for a few parent volunteers to help with serving toppings. This will be a green event, so students should bring their own plate, utensil, and napkin if the classroom doesn’t have a set.
Parent Council would like to invite students to wear their pajamas to school (please no characters, stay within the dress code) and plan to spend the day reading and writing with their classes. Cozy pajamas, pancakes, and good books seem like the perfect combination!
Medium Art Gallery- Youth Art Opportunity
Lillian Rubie, co-founder of Medium Art Gallery and ROCS parent, would love to share this opportunity with our students. There is an online entry form with all the details below!
The theme is "What Inspires You?"
The gallery will curate the gallery with pieces to be shown in person, but all pieces submitted will be in our online gallery (as we did not want to discourage any young artists by having their work not accepted).

Math Club News
The 5th Grade Math Club discovered a mistake in a task created by the Mindset Mathematics team, and their teacher, Ms. Maurer, wrote the team to see if her students were correct...please see correspondence below:
"Hello,
I note that you were part of the team that developed Mindset Mathematics. The resource has been a game-changer, providing a framework for emotionally healthy access to math for every child. The kids LOVE the tasks (yay!).
Is it possible that the mathematics puzzle (rectangular solids views are on page 31) requires 16 yellows to complete? My 5th grade math club kids have convinced me that another yellow is necessary to complete all of the 6 views...
Thanks,
Sue from Ukiah, California"
"Hi Sue,
Your students are right and congratulate them from us on their justification and argumentation. Despite our best efforts WE made a mistake and your students caught it. I'm attaching the corrected images here, but the truth is they probably had more fun finding our mistake than they will building the corrected version.
Thanks for reaching out!
Jen"

"I am very proud of the 5th grade students! It was really fun to see how empowered the students have become to argue for and justify their thinking." -Ms. Maurer
