Edgewood's Tiger Talk
May 17th, 2024
We are committed to our journey of developing EACH child to be an inspired learner and a caring, contributing citizen.
Principal's Update
1) "Summer Slide" is our teacher-talk for the learning loss that happens over the course of the summer. It is real. When students don't read and solve problems regularly, they get rusty and forget some of what they've learned. The saying, "It's just like riding a bike" isn't true yet for children. Their brains are forming, and much of what they've learned this year hasn't become fully automatic yet. What can you do to help prevent summer slide? READ. I highly encourage you to set a goal with your child to read X number of books together. Continue having conversations like you did with Frindle and the Toothpaste Millionaire. The Greenfield Library has a great summer reading program that you will get information on in the coming weeks. Check it out! (It's free entertainment AND it has air conditioning!)
2) If you are moving out of Greenfield and want your child to continue to attend Edgewood, it's important to complete a Tuition Waiver form right away. (Tuition Wavier acceptance is not always guaranteed). Tuition Waiver allows a student to finish out the school year before transitioning to a new school.
3) If you are moving and changing schools, it's helpful for both schools if you register right away so that both schools can plan accordingly.
4) Children that have medication at school need to have it picked up by an adult. (We can't send it home with kids, nor can we save it for next year). The office is not open throughout the summer.
Here's to May!
5th Grade Parents
At Edgewood, we have a many traditions for our 5th graders at the end of the year. A formal "graduation ceremony" is not one of them. We do, however, have a special assembly on our last day of school that honors our 5th graders.
5th grade parents are welcome to join us in person or via livestream for our last day assembly. It will be from 9:30-10:15 on Thursday, June 6th.
