Marie Murphy Principal Message
February 21, 2022
Mask Optional Update
Afternoon Marie Murphy Families,
I know there is a lot of communication coming your way, and I appreciate that we are all working through this together for the best interest of the children. My goal for this communication is to give you insights into how your child will be supported tomorrow. If you have questions or need support please consider attending my monthly principal Zoom from 8:30-9:00 on Wednesday. The link will be emailed before the meeting.
Tuesday we will start with Advisory to talk through this change to our protocols and support any questions that the students have. Our advisory message will focus on the need for students to follow their household decision related to masking at school. Please have this discussion with your child prior to Tuesday. During advisory we will stress our focus as a community of learners who support the individual choices of our classmates. We celebrate those differences each day and the choice to mask or unmask must be respected by peers and teachers.
I am including a link to our Advisory powerpoint here to make you aware of our student conversation/support plan for tomorrow. In addition, here is a link to my principal video message that we will show the kids at the start of Advisory.
I truly believe we have a very respectful and caring community of children at Marie Murphy. I also believe we are fostering inquisitive children who thrive on intellectual debate to grow into the future leaders of tomorrow. I am constantly amazed at the high level of discussion I encounter at a lunch table! It is for this reason that I do note in my message to students that during this transition we will not support debate around this topic at school. I also note that any bullying or intimidation related to being masked or unmasked will result in action per board policy. The safety of all students is my top priority and that means sustaining an environment that is free of judgment for their choices.
As a community we will continue to work through these changes together. The children are incredibly resilient and have shown this characteristic time and time again during the pandemic. I look forward to seeing them all tomorrow!
Thank you,
Elena Ryan
