Library Spotlight
Book Buddies
Our new and improved space has lots of fun soft friends. **Book Buddies** is an exciting library program designed to make reading even more enjoyable for our scholars. During their library classes, students can select a stuffed animal from our special collection to be their "Book Buddy" as they read.
The idea is simple: students choose two books, read them alongside their Book Buddy, and then take two Accelerated Reader (AR) tests, aiming to score at least 80% on each.
Once they pass both tests, they record their reading progress on a special Book Buddies bookmark, noting the titles of the books and their AR scores. The next time they return to the media center, they turn in their completed bookmark.
This program encourages reading while adding a fun and comforting element, helping students associate positive experiences with their time in the library. It’s a great way to boost both reading skills and library engagement!

Makerspace
International Dot Day, celebrated on September 15th, is a day dedicated to creativity, courage, and collaboration, inspired by Peter H. Reynolds' book *The Dot*. In our Makerspace, students will have the opportunity to explore their creativity by engaging in hands-on activities that encourage them to "make their mark" in unique and imaginative ways. F
It’s a wonderful chance for students to express themselves, build confidence, and collaborate with their peers, turning simple dots into extraordinary creations!
The artist in this story encourages each person to imagine what might be behind each door. The front of the door should give you an idea of what is behind each door. What did you imagine to be behind the doors? What should a door that represents the story "Like Lava in my Veins" look like?
Students will use mixed-media materials to create a door to represent the story "Like Lava in my Veins". This activity takes 2 class periods.

Like Lava in My Veins
By Derrick Barnes and Shawn Martinborough
All it takes is a loving teacher to help a boy get control of his sizzling superpowers. Bobby Beacon’s got fire flowing through his veins. And now he’s psyched to attend a new school that’ll help him get a better grip on his powers. It ain’t easy to stay calm when people don’t seem to understand you and are always pushing you to the edge. Good thing Bobby gets moved to a class with an understanding teacher who clues him in on ways to calm himself and shows him that caring for others is its own kind of superpower.
