Welcome Back To School 2024-25
Dear Killam Public School Community,
We hope you have had a fantastic summer! KPS staff are excited to welcome students back for another school year. We are committed to supporting students while providing high quality teaching and optimum student learning opportunities. We cannot wait to see all the students on Tuesday, September 3! Below you will find important information about our first day of school.
Start/End time: Classes start at 8:50 am. There will be a supervisor on the playground at 8:25 and the doors will open to enter the school at 8:40. Students are dismissed at 3:35 pm. A detailed bell schedule is posted on our website.
Entrances and Exits: All entrances will remain the same as last year.
Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 will enter through the Southwest entrance
Grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 will enter through the Southeast entrance
Junior High students will enter through the main entrance
For the safety of our students and staff, all doors to the building, with the exception of the main entrance will lock at 9:00 am. After that time, all students must enter the building through the front door only.
The First Day: We welcome parents into our building along with their student(s) at 8:40 to take your first day pictures and bid your child a fond farewell, but we do ask that by 9 am, you leave us to all the jobs we need to complete on that first day - it is busy!
Recess/Snacks/Lunch: As we get back into our routines, please be reminded that students have a 15 min break (and snack) in both the morning and afternoon. They will have 20 min to eat lunch and a 25 min lunch recess. A refillable water bottle will help them stay hydrated throughout the day.
Special First Day Snack: Thank you to our amazing Parent Council for providing muffins and juice boxes to all students and staff for a back to school treat!
Personal Mobile Devices and Social Media in schools: As many of you are aware, Alberta Education announced a Ministerial Order on the use of Personal Mobile Devices and Social Media in schools last June. We will continue to provide up to date information of what this will look like in the classroom in accordance with BRSD Administrative Procedure 135 and the Ministerial Order. We are here to support our school community through this change as we work as a team to ensure a focused and engaging learning environment.
If you have any questions that have not been answered here, please be in touch with us. Regular updates will be provided through the school newsletter. Please continue to check our website at www.killam.brsd.ab.ca. We are looking forward to an amazing school year!

Student Re-Enrollment and Verification Forms
The 2024/25 Student Re-Enrollment & Verification forms (320-1) were sent out in August. Every student and parent/guardian must complete this document prior to September 30, 2024 for your Division account and access to continue to be available to you and your student during the remainder of the school year. This may include student access to ChromeBooks at school. (Included as part of this package is the Technology Acceptable Use Agreement and the FOIP Consent Notice of Activities.)
Please note that the form must be completed on a web browser on a phone, tablet or computer. The PowerSchool App does not have form capability. Your username is your Firstname.Lastname. I
Every year we are required to provide Alberta Education with a signed and dated Student Verification form for each of our students. We also use the form to ensure all of the information we have regardingyour child(ren) is correct. This year we have moved to an electronic verification form for this process. In an attempt to streamline our process, the FOIP and Technology Use forms have been incorporated into the Verification form.
Powerschool Live Digital Reporting and Report Cards
Killam Public School is a real-time reporting school. You can access your students' schedule, academic progress and attendance through the PowerSchool Parent Portal and/or the phone app in real-time. Student assessments will be reported digitally on PowerSchool so physical/printed report cards will not be distributed. There is a new feature in the Parent Portal for parents to be able to generate a PDF of a Report Card. To access this new Report Card feature ou must be signed in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal through a web browser (Chrome, Firefox, etc.). You cannot view it from the app.
