Welcome to the monthly Continuous Improvement and State & Federal Programs communication. The purpose is to contextualize Continuous Improvement into our daily work, to efficiently complete all State and Federal Program tasks, and to promote moving these tasks past simple compliance.

MICIP Training Site Open

The MICIP Team has created a training site and training manual for schools, districts, and ISDs to use. The purpose of the training site is to get in and try out the various features and tools in MICIP so that we're prepared to use the system when it goes live in January. I recommend reaching out to your ISD and/or participating in other trainings on MICIP to fully understand the mindset and process behind MICIP. Two such opportunities are highlighted below.


Here is some important information from the MICIP Team:


  • Training manual has light bulbs that link to sample plan. To return back to the same spot, simply use the bookmark heading located on the left of the pdf file.
  • Warning that work can be overridden thus you may want to use a unique identifier.
  • Please use incognito or remove cookies from your browser after each session.
  • Please remind districts not to use MiServiceDesk contact located in the footer. All concerns should be sent to nugentt@michigan.gov or mde-micip@michigan.gov
  • Changes to the training platform will happen on 11/9 & by 12/21. I will send you a reminder and a list of changes.
  • Training is not the final platform but reflects what is currently in the soft launch platform.

Regional Bi-Weekly MICIP Open Forum

Open to anyone: I have scheduled an informal, 1-hour open forum series on MICIP every other week through January. The purpose of the forum is to get in and explore the MICIP system. I will work through a specific area of MICIP at each session. Participants are welcome to watch and engage in conversation, or get into the training site and try it for themselves.

No registration necessary, just join the Zoom at the appointed time (same Zoom link for the whole series). November dates and times:


MICIP Opportunity this Wednesday - MASFPS Professional Learning Series

The next MASFPS Professional Learning session is Wednesday the 4th and is dedicated to MICIP! It's not too late to register for the series or any specific dates. Other topics in the series include legal updates, 31a, MTSS, MDE updates and presentations from local districts. Register for the whole series and get video and all files from previous sessions.


Single sessions are $100 each, full series is $500. Each participant must register individually.

November Update: Extended COVID-19 Learning Plans

The MDE recently provided guidance on how to submit Reconfirmation Meeting information to CEPI. The following Extended COVID-19 Learning Plan resources have been updated with this new information:

  • UPDATED: This graphic provides a timeline and information on the most pressing requirements
  • UPDATED: Reconfirmation Meeting Template - Use to meet requirements of board communication, public comment, two-way interaction reporting, and (NEW) information on reporting to CEPI
  • UPDATED: Cover Page with links to all resources

Reminder: Important 31a Information for Count Period

As a reminder, 31a funding is based off of the district Free and Reduced Price lunch count. It is important for districts to be correctly documenting this in the SIS and reporting to MSDS during the count period. Many districts are providing free meals to all students right now, but please make sure your district continues to identify students for F/R lunch or you will see a substantial reduction in your 31a allocation next year.


A second note on 31a. The identification criteria appear to be the same this year. Count period is a great time to get your kids identified. What about state testing data? Per MDE OES, it is permissible to use the most current testing data for identification, which is the 2018/2019 state assessment.

20/21 Regional State and Federal Program Meetings

Mark you calendar for the following dates. At this time, please plan on the meetings being offered virtually. Although these are being organized by MAISD and OAISD, anyone can attend any session.
