Lanoka Harbor School Newsletter
April 2025

Dear Lanoka Families,
Mrs. Kilmurray and I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our families a safe and healthy spring recess and holiday season. We can all agree that some quality family time will surely help us as we push through the third trimester and complete our school year. This has been a strong year for the students at LHS and it is our goal to finish the year strong and not let any challenges placed in front of us become obstacles that prevent us from making the most of our experiences.
Over break, we encourage our students to continue to work on their reading and writing skills. A great way to do this is for them to read a book for at least 20 minutes a day to someone outside in the fresh air if possible. If no one is available, reading to a pet can be just as fun! IXL is also a great way for students to engage in some educational device screen time. Whether they are on a family vacation to another place or a staycation at home, have them keep a daily journal of what they do each day. Writing about their own experiences will be more interesting, and hopefully include extended details which in turn will improve their writing skills.
I wish you all a safe and happy time together.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Brewer, Principal
Theresa Kilmurray, Supervisor
CHORUS NEWS
On March 18th and 19th, the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Lanoka Harbor School Chorus students took the stage to perform Pirates! 2 - The Hidden Treasure. Under the direction of Mrs. Ferruzza and Mrs. Cottrell, the children taught the audience that our most important treasure is our friends. On March 20th the children took their show on the road and performed for the residents of The Pines in Whiting. Great job Chorus!

We will also be celebrating with 20 randomly selected students who were registered or raised over $200 with a pizza party with the principal! Congratulations to all that were selected!
We thank our school community for committing to their heart health and supporting our Kids Heart Challenge program. We are always amazed by the generosity of our Lanoka Harbor family!
MUSIC IN OUR SCHOOLS MONTH RESULTS
During March, Music in Our Schools month was celebrated at Lanoka Harbor School! The students were selected based on hard work and good behavior in the area of music. The results of the month-long celebration are listed below. Congratulations to all our winners!
READ ACROSS AMERICA
Lanoka Harbor School celebrated National Read Across America Day on March 3rd. This day was originally established by the National Education Association in 1998 to help get children excited about reading. The day takes place on the birthday of Dr. Seuss, the beloved children's author. On National Read Across America Day, students, teachers, and parents around that nation come together to read books and celebrate the joy of reading.
Here at Lanoka Harbor School many of the classes enjoyed special guest readers who came to read a book to the class. Members of the Lacey Woman's Club also served as guest readers and sponsored a poster contest. The winners were as follows:
1st Place - Gabriella Bednarz
2nd Place - Grayson Rieder
3rd Place - Issabella Vanim
Thanks to the participation of many guest readers, the day was enjoyed by all!
